Wilson is doing better with blacks and whites than most HS's in DC. Remember, if you're comparing, that all Walls applicants have to score proficient in math and reading just to get invited to apply. I believe Banneker is similarly 'selective'. If you've made proficient/advanced in 8th grade, it's a good guess you'll keep chugging along.
Wilson is doing a pretty good job by my books. I would put my kid there except DCPS Rheeform gives me the heebie-jeebies. We'll stay charter, but I tip my hat to Wilson for offering an interesting opportunity to many DC kids. |
Marie Reed is there, under M, for Marie.
Scores dropped. Less cheating under the new guy? |
Scores dropped at Marie Reed. Less cheating under the new guy? Impressive drop at Thomson. So much for cutting the arts and focusing on math and reading scores.
The plunge in the scores of Asian students at Thomson is impressive in a depressing way. Thomson was one of the few schools that wasn't cheating. |
Yes, wilson does pretty good for a lot of kids -- and it was doing better before Rhee-form. |
Doesn't change the fact that in a couple of years, no school will make AYP |
What focus on Math and Reading? All they did at Thomson was IB. |
Have to agree 20:10. IB was a complete bust at Thomson and a significant reason that we decided to leave. It is all great to discuss Arab Spring but I wanted my kid to know the American Revolution which is the standard and important to being an American citizen. At some point inquiry has to be teaching so you have something to ask a question about and Dupont did not encourage that. |
Marie Reed was missing part of the day. I called OSSE and asked. I have noticed also that a few schools don't do the print mode. I am guessing not all the links are as solid as they should be. |
Doesn't work in Google Chrome either. Ironic since the district uses a lot of Google products. |
IB was working pretty well year last year at Thomson. If take the cheating test scores out of the mix, Thomson's 2010 DC CAS scores were among the best in the District.
I blame Rhee for Thomson's failure this year. My child used to love this school. We are so glad to be leaving now. |
Thomson was not approved for IB under the previous principal. If you look at when scores started to stall there it was when they started to apply for IB. I just think IB is a disaster at Thomson for a lot of reasons but as much as anything because it is not geared towards the issues that exist at Thomson with language, poverty ect. There are very few IB schools that are not in relatively well off areas. |
But we must aim high! Nothing but the best for our children! [sarcasm alert] |
That was my first thought as well, the jump from 09 to 10 and then back down in 11 is just too strange. |
Not good news at all for most people/schools. |
Remember, Rhee hired a "rock star" principal there, who really changed the culture! (right) |
