I want a pedicure, but am afraid of fungus

But not in the same bubble, where we're going to transmit all kinds of nasty to each other.

In all seriousness, though, there's a difference between living in a bubble and using common sense. To me it's common sense not to go stick my feet in tubs of water where other chicks have put their nasty dragon feet.

I'm talking about Hep C- I know its *hard* to get, but the fact that its possible is NASTY.

Yes, I know someone who got this from pedicures and spent a lot of time at NIH for trial treatments. ICK ICK ICK.

I got a pedicure a couple of times when I was pregnant that was about it. I do it myself because of all the infections you can get. Seriously, it is not worth the risk.

I love manis and pedis but I just have never been able to bring myself to go to a salon for this.

She didn't get it from pedicures.

I know/have seen women with professional pedicures who definitely have the fungus, so that means salons don't turn them away. How do they avoid spreading it? Can they?

I have no idea abotu your question, but can you come to my house, talk to my wife and scare the crap out of her so she'll stop spending a small fortune on the damn things?

Thanks to this post, just gave myself a pedicure. Doesn't look great, but better than getting a fungus!

I don't get one very often but did go this past weekend. In all honestly I was so freaked out after I couldn't even sleep. I usually say "no" to that foot scraper thing but this time she didn't ask me and I was reading a magazing so she had already stared to use that thing on me before I noticed. She didn't cut me or anything but i started to get paranoid I could contract some sort of disease from that shaving thing. Please tell me that is not possible. I'm pretty sure it was not sterilized or new.

Just so everyone knows, Pleasant nail Spa has been spamming DCUM for weeks. They pulled up every old thread relating to nails and posted their own glowing reviews. Jeff deleted them but they're back, apparently. So don't get your nails done there.

Do you really do this? Explain!

Had to chime in. I got nail fungus from a pedicure at a very reputable spa in DC (actually, national company). It's a year later and my nail is still disgusting. Think thick, scaly and discolored. Went to dermatologist and they basically said none of the prescription stuff helps and that I will probably have it forever. Nice.

Ladies, I was like you. I went to only "nice" places. Now I have to hide my nail under polish and it still looks weird.

Every.single.time. I get a pedicure, 3 or 4 days later my feet get really itchy between my toes...looking like athlete foot.

no more...dragon nails from now on...
