What do you think about Stella and Dot jewelry?

I totally agree that S&D is a complete ripoff! I bought two bracelets, one their highly touted "silver" and the other their version of "gold." While I love the style, the quality and workmanship is very poor. Some posters have defended S&D because they feel customers should expect less of costume jewelry. I would agree if the price point reflected that. Unfortunately, the customer is paying steeply for shoddy merchandise. After very few wearings, my "gold" bracelet started turning brassy and green. The silver on my "silver" bracelet started wearing off in spots to reveal that same brassiness. Ugh! I'm so disgusted. Of course, I waited too long to return the jewelry and I don't have the receipts, but maybe I can save just one innocent buyer! LOL. As I said, the styling is great. The product itself is a disappointment. The company should be ashamed, especially in this economic climate. End of soapbox speech.

welry on this forum are slightly ridiculous. I own pieces from Tiffanys, David Yurman, Swarovski, etc. and if items are not GOLD which most pieces in the Stella&Dot collection do not claim to be will turn color if you don't take care of it (for example you cannot shower in it, which is also true for most jewelry). Also, any stone that is made out of CZ or crystal is typically glued on with a special epoxy to stay in the setting so these will often fall out if you wash them or wear them EVERY day. I do not work for Stella&Dot but just want people to understand that costume jewelry is just that, costume. They are not meant to be precious pieces to pass down to your children they are meant for fun, if the price points are too high for fun then

Soooo....... The fact that the stones were missing when I RECEIVED the jewelry and the "gold" turned green BEFORE I wore it (in the stella boxes)......means that I have to pay $100 for this crappy stuff just because its called 'costume' jewelry?????

Right...

LOL!
The rhinestones were not even present when I opened the box the first time...... And who wants to pay crazy money for something you will wear once and then have to chuck in the garbage because it turned your skin green?? (and I did actually take care of it, no swimming/showering)
i own other pieces of costume jewelry that lasted 10 years or more.

Bought 3 pieces, and when I got them delivered I had the impression the quality you get is different (worse) than those they show at the party.

Is this my experience only?

This is really a scam

I bought one necklace (silver and turquoise) and it seems to be of relative good quality.

They could be the best quality in the world, but i'm not going to support a product where the main way it is sold is via "parties" that women usually throw in order to sell me things. I REALLY hate their business model.

If you can't go to a "party" & have some fun, then just don't go! Most of my friends find parties fun, there's food, drinks, friends & shopping, now you tell me why that isn't fun? And, if it's such awful jewelry, as some are claiming, then don't buy it. I disagree. I have pieces, love it, and it's great, well-made & well-designed fashion jewelry. Send it back if something is wrong with a piece, the company takes returns. And, too, the party plan business model has been around since Sarah Coventry first started the Home Party Business in the 1950s & it was hugely successful, just like S & D is today. Lots of people like it, so those who are writing must be the very few who have had some pieces come to them that were not acceptable. Just send it back! And stay home, please, 'cause parties with negative people are no fun!

Don't know about you, but I enjoy buying jewelry in a personal home setting, around friends, food & wine! I also hate Mall Shopping! Catalogs work for me, but I prefer to buy something after seeing, touching & trying on samples first. My Stella & Dot Jewelry has all been fine, I think it's great quality, no problems. And, some people's skin turns green even when wearing sterling silver. I know, mine does. High acid content in body does this. Paint your jewelry underneath with clear nail polish & your skin won't turn green, nor will the jewelry show wear. I find ANY costume jewelry will turn, too, if you use harsh soaps, sprays, chlorine, etc. Remove it when you get home. It's not gold, it's costume jewelry!

Someone mentioned a "silver" bracelet that turned green. Sterling silver does not turn green, it dulls, but can be polished. The person who wrote didn't buy a Sterling Silver 925 bracelet, they bought a silver tone or silver metal bracelet. You have to know how to shop when buying jewelry & must know WHAT you are getting. Stella & Dot Jewelry has some 925 SS jewelry, but some of it is silver tone metal. Theirs holds up well & looks a lot like stainless steel in some cases. I have a Stella & Dot Corso wide cuff bracelet & matching hoop earrings in silver tone metal, and I swear both look like stainless steel, only better. They are a combo of matte & a shiny highly polished finish & very beautiful. Neither have turned colors & the set looks expensive. It wasn't. I hate the cheap junk that you see in most stores because almost all of it comes from China & breaks or wears out quickly. My Stella & Dot pieces wear well & none have broken. I like the quality. Some are complaining about the cost, but to get better quality, you have to pay a little more than what you find in most department stores today.

I received the pave soire bracelet as a gift and only wore it about 4 or 5 times before the elastic band holding it together broke. I called S & D and was told that they do not offer repairs and since I had had the bracelet for longer than a year, they could not help me But---they would sell me another piece of jewelry at a 25% discount. I would not recommend this jewelry. My bracelet was cheaply constructed and should have lasted longer than 5 "outings". !

I find it insulting that anyone would ever suggest that being a Stylist isn't a "real job". I really enjoy what I do and I hope I never give off the impression that I'm pushy. I like to host trunk shows in order to meet new people and have some fun. I enjoy attending parties like these because I find it gives us all an excuse to get together. I don't know many women who don't enjoy getting dressed up! As a mom sometimes you don't take the time to pamper yourself and purchase something just for you that makes you feel great. Accessories are the most affordable way to re-vamp your wardrobe, plus they always fit! I don't think people should critize others for what they do. As long as you love your job I think you're well on your way to success. I would much rather be doing what I do as a pose to sitting at a desk and waiting for someone else to tell me when I can take a break, but that's just me. Everyone is different and that's what makes life interesting. I think it is very easy to be critical of others but if you're not the jewelry party type then no problem, just don't go! My friends are excited that I am a Stylist because they know they can come over anytime to try things on or if they're stuck for something to wear to an upcoming wedding or party they are more comfortable coming to me because they know they'll get the honesty and personal service you don't always get from a department store. I love what I do and wouldn't change it for the world. This job is flexible and with three small children at home it also gives me the opportunity to get out once in a while and enjoy the company of women, not to mention I love the jewelry! It is fashion forward and versatile! Every time I step out of the house in Stella & Dot someone compliments me on my accessories, the jewelry sells itself, I just get to be the one to share it!
