Private & Independent Schools
Totally agree with you on every score. All of these parents are terrific. They want the best for their children and clearly they are feeling pain because they have not been accepted by their perceived dream schools. These privates are fine, but they are not Nirvana. You (parents) are Nirvana. You are the greatest gift your children could ever receive. Even the greatest teachers are really only okay. The children teachers really care the most about are their own. Continue loving, guiding, and nurturing your children. Teach your children everything you know. Find and share enriching learning experiences outside of school. Don't save that $30k you'd have otherwise spent on a private. No, far from it, spend it freely every year giving your child a world-wide education. By age eighteen you may find your child will be well socialized and mature having had a broad spectrum of experiences. Your children may grow up having a greater global perspective than if they had spent twelve years behind iron gates and ivy walls. Don't feel bad about those seemingly unpleasant letters you've received this week. Embrace those letters and be thankful you will not be part of that very skewed world. Most importantly, embrace your children and know they are wonderful human beings who have potential beyond anyone's imagination. You are their greatest gift and their greatest teacher. You only have to lead the way and your children will follow. |
