peeps be fuckin crazy
yes!! of course we do! |
| So now I'm wondering... has anyone changed where/if there are pictures of their children in their home as a result of this rediculous thread? |
Because my husband and I definitely want to appear high-class, we've removed our clutter of family photographs from the living room end tables and the den bookcase. There's now one discreetly positioned 5x7" photograph of our children in the den. Hope that will give the right appearance to our highly educated Washington friends. |

LOL!
I just added more pics to my foyer. |

This is very interesting. We don't have any pictures of our children in our home. I suggested we put some up a few years ago and my husband didn't want to for three reasons:
1 - He prefers artwork on the walls (we have 5 pieces that I painted up throughout our living room and kitchen) 2 - He said we can look at our kids anytime IRL 3 - I scrapbook and we're ALWAYS looking through those albums Made sense to me. I wonder if people think it's strange when they come over and don't see any pics of the kids. My FIL is a photographer and took some great pics of my son at a soccer game this past season. He blew it up into a poster print and gave it to my son for Christmas. He now has it hanging in his room. He LOVES that picture! |
Yes, because the people in my head whom I know from DCUM told me they had secretly thought I was gauche all this time and were whispering about it to each other behind my back. I could kinda hear the whispers in the background noise of my mind but had no idea it was about ME. How does my house look now, PP? Better? Does this painting need to be up slightly to the left? How about now? What? I can hardly hear you. |

Yes, they are all in two places 5 on the fridge and 4 framed on our bookshelf. I don't decorate to impress those who have sticks up their arses!
I need pictures of my kids having a blast around me, so that during the hard days I can think about how fun they are MOST of the time! |

Ha! This is classic DCUM.
Between us, DH and I have from "elite" schools" 1 JD, 1 MA, 1 PhD, and 2 BAs. We own a home in CC DC, our children attend a "big 3" school, and we have interesting DC jobs that pay us in the top 1% of income nation-wide. We also have children's pictures in our entryway and living room. |
Interesting, but I don't think money is what determines class in this context. Class is based on the money your family *used* to have. My DH and I have a seven figure HHI. We were both raised middle class, so we are middle class in our sensibilities. |
This is such a refreshing post. I wish there were more people with this kind of common sense around here. |

NOKD....this is how my sister and I refer to people who have tons of pictures of their kids up all over the place...
"Not our kind, dear" Enough said. |
Wait. With all that education and you still dont understand class distinctions? The fact that you even had to point it all out shows you are not high class. High class people are HUMBLE. HUMBLE. HUMBLE. |
| Dadgummit-I never knew I was a redneck until I read this post! I have pictures if my family EVERYWHERE!!! I makes me happy. I would consider it pretentious only if my kids were posing by our yacht in sailor suits, but what the hell do I know. FWIW, my husband and I both have law degrees from UVA but also grew up poor so maybe this is a residual trait from my very blue collar (think plastic baggies over shoes for snow!) but happy childhood! |

I created a gallery wall of black and white photos up the stairwell. The photos aren't readily seen unless you start walking up the Stairwell. They are candid professional outdoor shots of various sizes- but similar black frames.
Only our bedrOoms are upstairs so no reasons for guests to go up. I love gazing at them as the kids have already changed so much. I don't have any family phoTos on main levels--except for custom photo calendar in kitchen |
could not agree with you more. Well said! |
