I read Fussell.
To the PP w/out photos, but who painted their own "artwork": tsk, tsk, you lose big points there. (According to Fussell).

Bring your couch over and you can hang out with me on the front lawn. maybe I'll hang some pictures of my kids on the front door. |
I know you are joking, but my MIL who I consider classless due to her values and nastiness...doesn't display ANY photos of her children and never has because she finds a few of them unattractive. She does display photos of her grandchildren, but she said only because they are good looking. I kid you not. Bleck! I am with everyone else..to each their own. I think photos of the children make a house a home. I love photos-especially photos that capture happy memories like birthdays! We also have art too. We are middle class so I guess the theory fits with us..photos are in main room and albums. We don't have photos at the entrance to the house, but frankly we don't have room. |
You read his book, too! |
i think it more depends on your taste than your class. I am a SAHM + full-time student. DH finally made it to 60k last year. So yeah, we are lower class people. Yet we still don't have any kids pictures displayed in the entryway, living room, or hallway. Not that we can't because of the space, as we have a kind of spacious living place, but we rather chose not to. The only places we have our kids pictures are in their bedrooms and our bedroom.
Relating picture hanging habit to different classes just doesn't make any sense. |
Setting aside your high class picture hanging sensibilities, how do you have a spacious living place in the DC area on $60k/year?--you must have genius money management sensibilities.

I'm actually a friend of a relative of the guy who wrote the book (and they're not real happy about it -- the book, that is). |
That didn't come out right -- I meant "I'm friends with someone who is a relative of the guy who wrote the book." |
| I definitely display photos of my kids and my clients that spend $1,000 plus for wall art display their kids too (I'm a photographer). Depends how they are displayed and on what type of material (Canvas, float wrap, etc) |
This is hillarious! My husband was always opposed to having personal pics in the "public" areas - we live in a small house too so let's be honest, it's ALL public - but it always felt strange to me not to have one or two tastefully framed family photos. We just put a 11 x 20 canvas up of our 2 year old and it's art and we love it and if anyone doesn't they can quietly make their way out of our home!

| I have my kid's pic tatooed on my ass. Does that make me high class because nobody can see it? 8) |
11:08 - you totally win and are the classiest one of all!
|
Can you make a wall art display of my child that I can hang on the exterior of my front door for all the world to see? Merely hanging it in the foyer wouldn't do it justice. |
| ^how about a billboard kind of thing? |
Awesome idea! Sadly, however, they are not allowed in Montgomery County. Sigh. |
