I am bummed that my neighborhood has so little Christmas flair.

Jews don't worship Jesus, FWIW! And the Muslim Jesus says very different things from the Christian Jesus.

The post was a joke, dumba**.

Oh, now I get it! The original post was meant to mock Christians! How original, and witty! And totally in good taste, given that taste is a big topic of this thread!

And anybody who assumed that this was yet another naive DCUM poster and tried to help that poster out is, wait for it ... a dumba$$$.

Go crawl back under your rock, you loser.

Could it be a voice of reason on this thread? Let's hope.

But while she's fair game, the responses didn't mock her - they mocked her religion. Why mock an entire religion, and offend everybody who reads your post, when you could mock the individual poster? However, this is probably sublety that goes beyond the skills of the dumba$$e$ on this thread....

I don't think her religion was mocked at all, with the exception of the reference to Mary. I participated but understand the seriousness of my lapse in judgment.

You will understand the seriousness of your lapse in judgment when you burn in the fires of Hell for all eternity!

Yup, it's a game of "gotcha." Criticize this poster for mocking a central tenant of somebody else's religion, and she'll say she was just "joking" and we're too "dumb" to get it.

I'm out of here, don't want to play this game. Mock away.

Now there are multi-colored lightbulbs everywhere. I think it is people with younger children who seem to put up the most over the top displays. Oh and the inflatable snowmen, penguins and Santas in snow globes are all over the place.

Yes. As a person in Arlington with the inflatable snowman - its all about my kid. Pre-kid, I'd never have an inflatable snowman. But now i'm going to have to go drive near the Hospital to see the other displalys - as my street has barely any lights.

But come on - "tasteful" white lights and candles are so boring.

Crap, I am going to turn out to be that crazy woman with a yard full of obnoxious decorations - aren't I?

An example of tolerance that the rest of us should all follow. NOT!

Seriously, the poster quoted here is just as much a BIGOT as the Offended Poster. Why doesn't anybody ever go after this second type of obnoxious poster?

My neighborhood has a few elderly and renters and one family that used to decorate elaboratly stopped altogethor (I think their kids went to college and they called it quits). My son looks at our dark street and asks why aren't people putting out their Christmas lights?

I find I add more lights or decorations every year to make up for the lack elsewhere. If I keep going, soon I'm going to be that crazy house on the block. I mean - never in a million years would I have thought I'd have an inflatable snowman on my yard

Why don't you and OP approach the elderly people in your neighborhood and ask them if they would like you to put some decorations up for them both inside and outside the house? They would probbly be delighted because maybe their children do not live in this area or are simply cluless

Wow, I thought people in D.C. were supposed to be smart. Turns out, they really ARE a bunch of hicks.

11:38 This is a great idea! And while they are at it, stopping by with a few cookies (store bought, whatever) and a little card would be very nice. I took my now 3 and 5 year old to some older neighbors' houses last year with some cookies and a hand drawn card and they melted. I told the children it was to thank the people for the Halloween treats, and my daughter (4 at the time) kept saying trick or treat. We are doing it again this year.
