I am bummed that my neighborhood has so little Christmas flair.

It's worth the drive, though.

Wow. I can see how that would be fun to visit, but I'm also really glad I don't live on that street.

Come to Arlington. Our neighborhood (near the Virginia Hospital Center) used to be full of tasteful white lights and candles in the window. Now there are multi-colored lightbulbs everywhere. I think it is people with younger children who seem to put up the most over the top displays. Oh and the inflatable snowmen, penguins and Santas in snow globes are all over the place.

There are some very concrete reasons as to why this is, and I'm not arguing that the demographics of our little area should be otherwise. But still, at this time of year I can't help but being anonymously wistful. Now I'm going to snap out of it and do something meaningful for someone else.

In our area in Fairfax County, the streets with small children tend to have more Christmas lights. There is a demographic relationship between the two.

The kids love it! Tacky or not. Funny, if Christians called non-Christians tacky, it would never fly. But double standards? By all means! Give me a break.

Some people wouldn't know tacky if it hit them off the head. Maybe it should.

"Spirit"?!?!?! OP, don't expect much of that here, sorry to be the one to tell you

There are plenty of places where Christian is not a bad word, OP. This is America, after all. Hope you find it and enjoy it soon. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!! I'll say it again, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!

I'm from Baltimore and everyone knows about 34st so unless you are from out of town, you wouldn't look to buy on that street unless you buy into it. I couldn't get past the electric bill!

Anyone who thinks Christmas lights are tacky is a big SCROOGE.

I'm the one who decorates for Christmas in our house, and being 9months pregnant I can't be getting up on the roof and climbing ladders this year to put up all the lights and decorations. It's a little depressing for me to not have them up this year. It just doesn't feel like Christmas with out all the lights...

I love my lights! And even those who think they are tacky! And Merry Christmas!

Offended Christian, so sorry that the U.S. only being 85% of your faith has left you feeling so persecuted. How left out you must feel, having to put up with the non-Jesus worshiping among us. Feel free to junk-punch yourself, toolbox.

Signed, raised Catholic

Jeeze louise! This wasn't an anti Christian/anti Christmas post. Some Christmas lights are tacky! It wasn't a bad posting, we like tacky Christmas lights that don't match and have no rhyme or reason, or houses so lit up that you can land an airplane on the roof (aka Griswald style).

This was simply, "A my neighborhood doesn't have a lot of lights" or I miss tacky decor! Jeez. Lighten up.

And BTW, one of my Jewish friends hang blue lights with the Star Of David up and another athiest friend still has a tree and lights for her daughter. She doesn't celebrate Christ's birth, but just the joy and spirit of giving that comes with the season.

O please decorate.
This is such a miserable time of the year. The lights are what we need.
But do not have flashing lights that shine into your neighbours bedroom

Booooooooooo! Persecuted Christian, you make the rest of us look bad. Tacky is as tacky does, and you did.

Hey, you want to know what demographic decorates for Christmas? Childfree gay couples! We have three such couples on our street and wow, do they decorate!

Listen whack job lady, this Jewish mom fails to see a *necessary* connection between Christian observance and giant inflatable Santas. I think it is consistent with logic that you can criticize the aesthetic decision responsible for inflatable Santas without criticizing the religious beliefs of the people who buy and display inflatable Santas.

I promise you there are similarly butt-ugly Hanukkah decorations out there. Bad taste is pretty equal-opportunity here, though I guess we're generally less inclined toward outdoor holiday decorating so maybe we keep it to ourselves a little more effectively.

You're right, this is America. If you completed high school you probably learned that there is no established religion here, which also implies that none of the various religions represented here should be regarded as bad words.
