I am bummed that my neighborhood has so little Christmas flair.

Are you the poster who converted to islam from catholicism?

Not PP, but Offended Christian was pretty offensive with her suggestion that America (should) = Christian.

Not sure who people are calling Offended Christian, but I'm guessing 19:21. Yes, she's a bit strident. But I can't find anywhere in her post where she says America should = Christian.

So accusing her of a persecution complex and telling her to juke-punch herself is a total overreaction by somebody who's either feeling persecuted themselves, or is just another nasty DCUMer (lots of those).

And if she were, what then? Is Offended Christian intending to imply something negative about Islam? If so, this just makes me sick. In fact the cancerously rapid opening of fronts in this renewed Culture War is sickening.

Signed, Jewish mom who began by simply (and mildly) criticizing kitsch and is know wondering where the rock under which Offended Christian must be living could possibly be located. Even our Virginia suburbs, with their generally vibrant multicultural demographics, seem like unlikely hosts for her nonsense.

I am disappointed, but not surprised, to see so little Christmas spirit on this thread.

Come on! Whether we call ourselves Catholics, or Muslims, or Jewish, do we not all worship the same Jesus Christ?

At this time, of all times, let us close our eyes and join in silent prayer.

The real Christmas lights are not those adorning the outside of our houses, but are inside all of us, whenever we think of the Baby Jesus and His Sacrifice.

Thanks for lightening the mood.

There should be a prize for this. Maybe the statuette should look like one of those Hawaiian shirt Santas?

No, dummy. The statuette should look like the Virgin Mary. The blonde, blue-eyed kind, not the more historically accurate kind with olive skin.

And when you squeeze her hand she should wish you "Merry Christmas"-- in English, just like in the Bible.

Not to excuse the offended person who is aggressively wishing everyone Merry Christmas whether they like it or not. But with posts like these two and the one from the ex-catholic-whatever-she-is-now, which are all over the web not just DCUM, can you wonder why some people of faith are starting to get mad?

You guys and others everywhere are goading her, and then you criticize her when she reacts. How fair is that? It's a game of "gotcha."

Jews don't worship Jesus, FWIW! And the Muslim Jesus says very different things from the Christian Jesus.

I see your point about the poor taste of bringing representations of Mary into this. Very, very sorry.

Maybe we should stick with Hawaiian Shirt Santa after all? (And anyone else in the mood for a John Waters film?)

I don't see a problem with poking fun at Offended Christian on other counts, and I think Lapsed Catholic's post was very well said.

Charming. Really charming. You're what's wrong with DCUM, in a nutshell.

I'm out of here, go back to your religion-baiting.

I think I'd call it intolerance baiting. Maybe idiot baiting.
