Grandmother throw's granddaughter off Tyson's walkway.

This is one of those stories that literally makes me sick to my stomach. It is just *so* horrible and yet so totally unbelievable that a person (much less a grandmother) could do this to a child. I think we all want to understand how this could possibly happen.

As a mother of 3 (one of whom just turned 3 yo), I can say there are moments when I've had enough of 3 crying, screaming kids. But never in my wildest imagination could I do something like this. I can't imagine anybody "snapping" in such a manner. It takes physical effort to pick up a child and throw that child over a 4 feet high barrier, down 5 floors below unto a concrete road.

Just absolutely horrible.

It makes me sick to think anyone could actually do such a thing, but maybe she didn't. Maybe the child was crying and she went to pick the child up and had some very strange slip that made her fall toward the railing and drop the child - so that it would look like she threw the child. Maybe she is on medication that literally made her go insane. Or maybe she is a crazy monster - but I'm not ready to get the torches and pitchforks yet.

News just said according to witnesses and video that the grandmother picked the child up and threw the child, it was not an accident.

I saw that on the news last night (I'm the person you quoted) that they had a video. That just made me feel sick.

I have to say - I have to hope it turns out to be something like she had a stroke - or something medical that explains it - anything other than a perfectly normal loving grandma could just suddenly crack.

Um..... not to derail this thread, but ignorant is most definitely NOT a noun. If your dictionary says it is, then you need a new dictionary. Sorry.

Shit!! That was supposed to be reversed... it was after midnight lol

I saw a news headline and couldn't bring myself to read the article, nor did I click on the link.

It is unimaginable and the visual it brings...esp with a 2-year old at home with me...makes me shudder.

The fact that you ppl have turned this thread into an argument is just as sickening.

Read that GM has a history of mental health problems.

I just read an article tonight that said that now they're saying it was probably accidental..

My incredibly baseless guess is that she's got something like an undiagnosed brain tumor.

Can you post the link, I'd love to read it. I just read this...

Surveillance cameras apparently caught the horrific incident on camera. Rodway says detectives are combing through other video surveillance throughout the mall to see if they captured any other incident involving the child that night.

I would also like to read the story that says it is was accidental. We were actually at the mall tonight and this story haunted me the entire time...also, I really don't see how this could have been an accident -- the railing is quite high.

Shouldn't this be ignorance? You don't say, "He wears his ignorantness on his sleeve."

Better get another dictionary.

The WaPo story from this morning indicates very clearly that it was *not* accidental.

My guess is that this is a combination of mental illness and the fact that she was pissed that they moved out of her house and into the son-in-law's parents house. A case of "if I can't have her all the time, no one will!"

I just looked at the latest article on this in the Post about it being revealed that she has been battling depression (and just buried her brother) and have been thinking about it and realized that as sick to my stomach as this story makes me...based on what I read today there is a small part of me that can see/understand exactly how this could have happened. I recently started on medication and seeing a doctor for depression. We've had a series of stressful incidents in our lives, my long term unemployment being a major one, and I was having increasing brief episodes of simply losing it with my son. In fact, we are still working on my medication and it happened again just the other night. I asked him calmly/nicely to clean up about three times. We had just had people over for a party, my mom was in town and gets to me, and my blood was suddenly starting to boil. I warned him that I was starting to feel frustrated and impatient and to please do as I asked - but he still didn't take it seriously and was dawdling (he's almost five). About the fourth time I had to ask him it came out as screaming at him at the top of my lungs. For a few seconds, I just lost control. Then it immediately came back and I calmed down and of course felt horrible (while my son scrambled to clean up). My parents, who have never witnessed this before, were completed disturbed - rightly so. I apologized, as I have before, to my son and to them and explained that I've been having a rough time and am seeking help. (Of course little does my mom know that she's about half my problem...I have a lot of anger toward her I need to let go of, including the fact that she comes to visit her grandkids once a year for two days despite the fact that she lives in the same state. And we have no other family close by, so no help.)

The point of this is that for the first time - though I could just never imagine causing my child harm like that - I do feel as if I can get some glimpse into how people battling depression can just simply momentarily lose their mind. It's a horrible thing and very sad. Depression can be so serious and as we've seen time and time again, deadly for those battling it and the people around them. This is a very sad story all around.

I'm the PP you quoted... I (THINK) this is the article that I read.... but I read it quickly, and misunderstood what I had read, I was completely incorrect. It said they were *trying to determine* if it could have been an accident, and apparently that's the only part of the article that stuck with me. Sorry about that... Everything else I've read has said that it was definitely not an accident... This whole thing seriously makes me feel physically ill to think about.
