Please don't be offended- What should your HHI be around to consider sending DC to private school?

Anonymous
OP here! thanks for all the great responses! helps put things into perspective. We have a HHI of about 275K and we are sending just one child to pvt school. Currently I spend about 15k on a pvt preschool. It will be tight but doable!

Not PP, but probably because this is DC Urban Moms. Fairfax is neither DC nor urban. Moreover, if you are in DC, you have other options than just sending a kid to private school (i.e., there are some decent publics, charters, moving...). Have a nice commute!

And if you two did any reading, you would know that residents of Fairfax make up a huge portion of who posts and reads DCUMs. What the hell? Are you guys always such bitches?

Because we're sick of waiting for you to go away and find your own website about raising kids in the sticks.

Which suburb do you live in: Palisades, Foxhall, Chevy Chase, Spring Valley, AU Park, glover park,Cleveland Park? You are seriously fooling yourselves if you think any of these places are "the city". They are a shitload more suburban than a lot of the places you mock.. and a longer commute downtown to boot.

I lived in Dupont for 15 years. I don't understand why some of you think you are badasses because you live there. DC is like a fucking third world country--you elect crooks, you can't drink the water, services suck...

Enjoy your new mayor and the $30k/year it sounds like most of you can barely afford as it is.

This is insane. I live in Arlington and my commute to work is guaranteed much shorter than anyone living in most areas of DC.

Apparently not. Can the commuter vs. "urban" warriors take it somewhere else?

In this fight I'm going to have to say that the "commuter" started it.

I work from home. What commute?

Frankly, DC is one step above PG County in my book.

Actually, I take that back. DC is the worst.

As someone happily living in PG after too many years hating DC: thank you.

Who on earth has a mortgage under $3k?? You can't have kids in a studio!

We have a $1200 mortgage and we live in a two-bedroom condo.

what are your longterm goals? More kids? Do you plan to stay in condo as kid gets older?

You might want to save $ instead.

HHI of 180k, religious school of 15k. Feels a little tight to us, but I know people who do it on less.

We make around $200,000 or more and paid for a top private school that was $19,000 a year when kid started and ended up at 30k. We live in DC in a 1400 sq. foot townhouse -- mortgage is under $2k. We love our lifestyle and would have never considered public school in DC.

Some of us want to offer our children more than "decent".

Your post is very sad. If you lived in Dupont for 15 years -- you must have liked it to stay that long. Now though --you want to criticize others who deeply enjoy city living. You know it's the best choice. Who are you fooling with your foul language and snipes at the new mayor. Anti-black are you?

I always find it funny when suburbanites jump on these forums and try to make fun of DC. In my DC neighborhood, I've never heard of any crime, things work as expected, I jog with Senators and some of the most influential people in the nation. You know you would live here if you could afford it. Maybe that soul sucking commute from Vienna on 66 is what is making some of these ladies so bitchy. Also your 1990s stereotypes have about as much sting dead bee.
