Son Admitted From Harvard Waitlist. Need Help Deciding

Ridiculous! My kid graduated from a T20 that had a math curve and he got a c, when not quite half the class failed. He didn’t get anything close to straight A’s and got an $80k job. I know that’s not law school, but so much is who you know these days. It’s also just land to sell yourself short.

Harvard is a hook. Also, people all over DC didn’t go to top law schools and making $1M+. If this guy (who may be a troll) is that wimpy he can’t hustle, then he’ll never do well.

No one is talking about making a million dollars. The goal is to go to law school. If that’s the goal, you should actually listen to OP’s request instead of trying so hard to push a certain narrative.

I am dubious that OP's kid would get a bad grade from Harvard unless they did a very poor job.

DS is currently heading to another Top 5 college and previously had put himself on the waiting list for Harvard, but I honestly would not advise him to think twice even in the very slim chance he gets off the WL. I would worry about the immediate effects to the culture of the school after this grading policy change, and how it would affect collaboration and exploration more than worrying about getting a C.

I don’t think they were intending to be a jerk even though super common here. For a kid to get into these schools it takes copious amounts of effort and insight into the process. Nothing that’s been said is new information, so it comes off as a humble brag.

Brown is a clown school, even with the new minimum 3.7 GPA from Harvard they will get into a better law school with a decent LSAT from Harvard.

Brown and Harvard are a joke. All we are employing at my top firm these days are USNA/Yale law grads and kids who had like 3 jobs a year while putting themselves through undergrad who were still Phi Beta Kappas and then pulled Order of the Coif at top 15 law schools. Clients don’t want spoiled brat, indulged punks (remember, Gen Xers are largely at the top of the food chain right now and they just want things done).

Your kid faces 15 more years of those people. Prepare them for it.
