Love both cities and spent a lot of time on both. You're wrong on this one

It's a matter of opinion. An opinion is not fact, and can't be "wrong".

Also both colleges are at least an hour by car away from these two cities. Do either have easy public trans to get them there in less than an hour (train etc.)?

Middlebury has an Amtrak station within walking distance of campus--take it north to Burlington or south to NYC.

True, though having spent significant time in both cities and having lived in Burlington I am pretty comfortable saying that neither city is "a lot better" than the other. If I was to move to either I'd be more likely to move to Portland at this point but "a lot better" it is not.

Middlebury is 40 minutes from Burlington by car. TVT link runs twice a day back and forth.

Maintain full capacity on capacity to max tuition revenue. It helps with cost management. Calling them Febs is neither here or there.

The point of calling them Febs is that they are a true cohort. Midd does a great job with Feb orientation so those kids really bond and are not just thrown into the school mid year. Many graduate “on time” e.g. in May but there is a small group that is there that last Fall and they grow close and have a fun graduation.

February kids DO NOT HAVE the same stats….They are not even included in the stat that are reported…..It has been like this for 50 years….

Colby received over 21,000 applications and accepted only 8%. Middlebury has experienced a drop of over 1,000 apps in recent 2 years with 17% acceptance.

My kid was accepted to both and chose Colby. She had a great experience and loved her time there and has done very well in her career since graduation ('23).

I don't think there are many people who use Amtrak to get from Middlebury to Burlington or vice versa. There is probably 1 train a day.

Many kids at Midd have cars. Middlebury is 'remote' and a lot of the kids are rich kids from northeastern suburbs. They have cars.

Colby is hot.

I believe that this thread is about Middlebury, not about a school ranked ranked outside of the top 20 and mostly known for gaming their stats.

Colby takes kids with horrible stats from private schools.

Colby has invested hundreds of millions in facilities. Middlebury has seen a drop of applications from class of 2027 number of well over 13300 drop of 14%.

Depends. Not all the professors at the two are equal. Kids want different things.

I liked that Midd was close to skiing. Colby is closer to fantastic restaurants. BTV dining options are fine but Portland is way better. Portland is a slightly bigger city than BTV.

Colby is just over an hour away from Sugarloaf / much better skiing than the snow bowl!

Midd kids prefer Sugarbush to Killington IME.

In any case, Midd has the Bowl, Killington, Sugarbush, and MRG all closer than Colby has Sugarloaf.
