I was there last summer for a one day visit and it was sunny and everyone was having a good time. One thing that surprised me was that I couldn't find any intact shells. I would have liked to have a little souvenir but there was nothing worth bringing back. I saw a lot of pelicans. The town also looked very cute. Reminded me a little of Vermont. |
My experience is extensive travel up and down the pacific coast for last 5 decades. But I know Dcumlandia likes to quickly point out that personal experience is merely data from one, so I’m boosting credibility by pointing out that google supports the statement by backing it up with facts. PS - Anyone who has set foot on Cannon beach in June knows it has zero appeal unless you are the kind of person who enjoys wearing jeans and a bulky sweater to the beach while carrying an umbrella just in case it rains (which it will). |
Congrats on catching the sun! I challenge everyone to add Cannon Beach to your weather app and check it daily. |
| Yes OP, this is pretty much what most beach towns look like from the mid Atlantic to Florida. The beautiful attraction is the beach, not the town. |
Nice try “google says” |
Well, I also know tons of affluent West Coasters who own beach houses on the East Coast—not to mention the celebs. Not sure if it’s the weather, vibe, pollution, or sharks, but there must be something prompting them to buy a vacation home a plane ride away. |
| Florida Atlantic coast (east side of Florida) is still kinda ugly although better than up north. Florida gulf coast (the west side of Florida) and down in the keys is lovely. |
Agreed-ish. Sadly, the Gulf Coast is plagued annually by red tide. Google it, and swim at your own risk. Plus, sharks. But there are charming beach towns along both coasts of FL. SC and GA have charming coastal towns as well. |
Poll 50000 random domestic and international travelers, or just check Trip Advisor data. West is more appealing generally to more people, by a significant margin. West is higher ranked with overall appeal over a large sample of people. This is despite the toxic waste and “dull” weather. |
I mean, google, ChatGPT, and all the beach people I know prefer east coast beaches. The west coast has some dramatic scenery but the water is too cold to enjoy even in the summer. Anyway, our banter isn’t helping the poor French woman find a cute beach town in America. Let’s set aside our differences and focus on that, okay? Which West Coast beach towns would you suggest, pp? The goal is “better than Lewes” which should be easy. |
| It is hard to top the OC beach towards the inlet. It is really wide. There is plenty of room on the beach. You can walk to the boardwalk and get some Alaska Stand. |
| I must have low expectations of eastern shore beaches. When there are no needles on the beaches, I think it's a wonderful experience! |
lol that is a complete lie. No wealthy Californian owns a beach house in the mid Atlantic. maybe Florida. |
Again "eastern shore" needs to be defined. Anyone living in the DMV would say that's the bay and places like St. Michaels. The actual Atlantic Ocean shore is just "the beach". Also, I've never seen a needle on any beach so I'm not sure what you're complaining about. |
? The pp said West Coasters own beach houses on the East Coast. The only person limiting this to the mid Atlantic is you. |
