DOGE and constant government shutdowns have done generations of damage. So many smart talented people who would be willing to work in the federal government for less pay than they could get elsewhere knowing that at least they had stable employment, are now going to see the federal government as a risky endeavor in case an administration comes in that wants to "inflict trauma" on them.

This. There's now a spoils system where you give donors a job in the federal government where all you do is micromanage the career staff and make everyone miserable. Oh and you can grift taxpayer funds because you will get a blanket pardon
