I think that box gets checked only for students who were enrolled in an official FCPS World Languages program. World Languages refers to a specific FCPS curriculum that is used at the Immersion Schools and the FLES Programs Schools. Only certain schools will even have students who qualify to have the box checked since not every school participates in immersion or FLES. |
Ask the principal who the point of contact is. |
Your child’s school matters. The students with the lower scores may attend a school where the school are generally lower. So that student may actually one of the higher scorers in their particular school. AAP is meant to select students whose academic needs would be hard to meet within the general ed setting in their school. If the school has generally higher performing students, then the barrier to entry is typically higher. There are other factors too. We know kids who were in pool but didn’t get in. But it sounded like their test scores were abnormally high compared to their grades, work output, and teacher ratings. |
Yep. There are some kids who had grades and ratings that don't match the high scores that aren't admitted. |
Oh, now I feel bad for being pissed. It’s French, not immersion- the teacher speaks it too, so I figured she must have known. Makes sense. |

Child did not get in despite being in-pool with very high scores in a top AAP school. For those with experience here, worth it to do another set of tests if already high?
High suspicious that teacher marked him low and she said she wasn’t involved in any work samples — totally uninvolved. |
| 2nd grader. NNAT 142. NGAT 150. In pool. All 4’s on report card except 3’s on a couple specials. HOPE seemed mediocre as compared to my older kid’s GBRS. Both kids eligible. |
Clarifying older kid got in as a 2nd grader under the older criteria of GBRS and CogAt |

Hi friends-
2nd grader He was in universal pool NGAT - 141 NAT - 127 MAP -221 iready - 438 I am not sure what hope rating is - is it the report card quarterly score? If it is report card quarterly score than it was most of the time 3 and few 4. Now He is not choosen for AAP Should I submit an appeal? what is the appeal process step by step? Do I have chance in this score? |
Trying to understand appeal process too. |
| 2nd grader, NNAT 152; NGAT 162. MAP 259. In pool. I did not request HOPE score. He is eligible. |
2nd this question. Is a WISC needed for appeal on already high, in pool scores? |
| I thought they didn’t test in second grade? |
FCPS seems to like GMU. For what it is worth, WISC scores don’t seem to have a lot of success based on what people have posted here. |
The scores are great. I would say definitely appeal. Request your kid's packet from school. You will see HOPE questionnaire there. It is highly likely that HOPE score was the reason. Try to address the gaps in your new samples/parent forms. |
