Dishwasher brand/model that lasts more than 5-6 years?

I usually go with Maytag. Each of them has lasted longer than I’ve been in my house. My current one is 6yrs old. It replaced the Miele that came with the house but didn’t really work.

The model number is slightly different, however. Home Depot has a model made with cheaper parts.

This is a myth told to you by your appliance sales guy who charges a premium. You can look up model numbers that all retailers sell. For the most part, they are the same.

My el cheapo loud enough to wake the dead Danby lasted about 12 years but I replaced the control board twice at about $20 ea. And the heating element at $9 via DIY. When it finally kicked the bucket I got a Bosch and it has been solid and quiet for 8 years.

Appliances and HVACs used to last literally decades, 30+ years. Today's quality is criminal.

Dishwashers and modern detergent are designed to clean dishes that have been scraped and not pre-washed. Detergents are enzyme based and need something to work on.

That is a myth to get you to ruin your washing machine so you have to replace it every 5 years.

I shudder at the idea of buying a replacement dishwasher. The past 5 years there were so many environmental requirements added to appliances. As a result, the quality of things like dishwashers is now crap and turned what should be a 15-20 year purchase into the appliance verson of temu fast fashion, wear once and throw away.

We run our dishwasher a lot. But I have changed how I take care of my dishwasher and sink. First of all, all dishes scraped and soaked in the sink with water. Clean filter every day. No tablet of dishwasher detergent. I am always using the gel detergent. In smaller quantities than recommended. Using rinse aid. And vinegar. Clean the sink erator regularly too.

Use the options in the dishwasher. Is there a rinse and hold option as you wait for enough dishes to fill the dishwasher? Use that if you do not want to hand pre-rinse. Clean filter regularly. Also, fill the bottom of the dishwasher (with the filter out) and with water and some baking soda and drain the dishwasher....it will clear out any funky smell. (I found it better than affresh).

Also, have a stainless steel mesh sink strainer in your sink to trap food particles. So that all your plumbing remains as clean as possible.

Inherited a 12 year old Miele dishwasher and definitely the best I've ever had. Not it's 17 years old and 0 issues.
