How much does your summer swim team charge?

$275 for the first swimmer, then sibling discounts.

Of course volunteer requirements are per family. Whether a family has one kid or six, the number of parents doesn't increase.

$100 for the first kid. $50 for the second and third kid. All other kids free

This is ridiculous to me. Each kid takes up the same resources.

All of this!

I agree, this makes no sense. There shouldn't be discounts for second, third, fourth kids.

Agree, it doesn't make sense that families with less kids shoulder the financial burden.

And every family has the same volunteer hours. So my only child pays $150 + 12 volunteer hours. The family with 4 kids pays $100 a kid + 3 volunteer hours (since hours are per family). And our team does a family max, which means that larger families don’t even pay for their 4th child to swim.

While my swim team does have a 2nd kid discount ($250 and 2nd kid $200), the volunteer hours are per child.

I actually like the big families that are on our team. I'm in the suburbs so most families have 3 kids, and some have 2. The swim team families who have 3 kids on the team are at every practice and volunteer for everything. They're really involved and everyone knows them. We're in an HOA, so no one has to pay a pool fee for the summer though.

2 of my 3 kids are on swim team (3rd is a preschooler) and both dh and I trade off who volunteers at that week's meet. We also have grandparents volunteer for us too.

I think you'd have an issue with per-child volunteer requirements for smaller teams. It can be hard enough for those small teams to get parents to complete enough volunteer hours/credits in a season when spread evenly across families, so if you make a family with four kids volunteer significantly more than a family with one kid, you might make it impossible for those families to meet their requirements.
