Having ideas that are popular and help average people?? But that’s too much work and would interfere with culling the herd! Brazen rule-flouting is exactly how authoritarianism operates. Cheating is how they display that they’re powerful and above the rules. Disenfranchisement is how they signal contempt for the little people, who shouldn’t be allowed to decide things because they’re obviously not as smart or they too would be billionaires rigging the system in their favor. Chaos lets them invent problems that only they have the solution to. Fair elections aren’t in their DNA. It’s the same motivation that leads authoritarian men to rape 13 year olds on an island instead of simply having a normal monogamous adult relationship with a spouse or partner. Same motivation that drives manosphere influencers to give their audience lazy shortcut tips for how to trick women and manipulate them into bed, instead of doing the obvious thing and making an effort to work on themselves and connect better with women. If there’s an overly complicated method to get their way that will cause lots of people maximum pain, the authoritarian will always prefer that over the simple method of doing something that other people want. Call it Occam’s Taser. The real mystery is why anyone thinks this is a good way to govern. |
| Maybe pillowman doesn't, but several hundred thousand rogue "ICE Agents" with weaponry paid for by the American public, should. |
No, I blame Republicans in Congress. They’re the ones with power but they don’t care about America or our laws. To all the posters saying things like “states control elections.” Have you not been paying attention? Trump doesn’t care about our constitution and he has followers in Congress and the Supreme Court who will do whatever he says. |
| The theory of the case is that China interfered with the 2020 election and in response the federal government needs to seize control of U.S. elections while also asking China to buy more of our soybeans and selling them AI chips. |
Not that Cheato cares, but it’s a federal crime to deploy federal troops or armed federal law enforcement agents near polling places, punishable by up to five years in prison. There’s about 13,000 ICE agents and 94,000 polling places. They can’t cover them all, though I’m sure Trump would love to concentrate them in swing states. |
Who will enforce that law? Rules for thee no rules for me. |
We all pay a pretty penny for our police departments. Have them earn their salaries and enforce the law. We play a pretty penny for all those federal folks as well. We are not paying all that money to be stopped from voting. |
| Trump is getting bad advice. There is no way this will fly with the courts. |
Meanwhile in reality, Trump asked China to interfere in 2020 and they refused. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/10/trump-calls-china-interfere-2020-election/599365/ https://www.reuters.com/article/world/trump-asked-china-to-help-him-win-in-2020-offered-favors-to-dictators-bolton-idUSKBN23P054/ |
Hmmm Miller, thiel, Vance...yes bad advice |
this |
when you are stealing a country, you don't care about laws or what constitutes a crime. And stealing an election only need to happen at a handful pr precincts in a few states, unless people in some of the red states decide to vote against the regime. |
Uh, have you not been paying attention? Many of the police at the local level are MAGA. And the non-MAGA are being actively purged from the federal payroll. No one is going to come to save us from this. It will require all of us, like Lilliputions, to come together to put an end to it. |
They can be maga but if you want your pay check, do your job. |
