Is the US Presidential Scholars Program worth applying to?

OP here, Can we keep political digs at the "woke" out of this please? Not a fan of this current admin. at all, but it's not deterring my kid from applying either. Although we did joke about writing his essays to appeal to the Trumpies. Maybe not really a joke, unfortunately.

I think this will look good on the resume even if they just make it to semi finalist when they apply for summer internship later this year. My child is applying and most of the information is copy and paste from common app other than the essays.

woke and short-sited; President is elected every four years - but you know that.

+- the program is run by the U.S. Department of Education- it was started by Lyndon Johnson. Not everything is about Trump or MAGA. Research before posting nonsense

Look, kids should apply if they want to, but the Department of Education is currently being dismantled by a WWE executive. Just like the Kennedy Center board was replaced with Trump donors/lackeys, I’d assume the selection committee for this award has been similarly reconstituted.

really? the essays about the favorite teacher, relative and the 250 US anniversary certainly are not copy and paste for us

The odds of getting selected are extremely low (less than the odds of admission at Harvard) and there's no scholarship (nor trip to DC) tied to it, so the juice is not worth the squeeze.

My DC decided the same.

I'll leave it up to my child, but we're not going to be pushing for it. To be honest, his strongest attributes are his test scores and class-related work; his extra-curriculars have been good learning experiences, but they aren't going to impress anyone reviewing the application.

NP. Same for our child. Plus she was way too burned out by senior year to want to work on optional essays and whatever a potential semi-final round might require.

Without impressive national or international awards, please don't waste a burned-out kid's time on this. It's not worth it. EC's are the discriminator after candidacy.

How hard is it to write 6 more essays after having written over 50 for college apps and other scholarship apps

Kids are relaxed now since all applications are done. They have time now and this is a productive way to spend. ECs are super important with leadership, community service, research talent etc

FCPS students will not win if they are still suing the Trump administration. None won last year and it was definitely political.
