Claremont colleges

I have a DD at Pomona. Personally, I think the 5Cs collectively are fantastic and that each school offers something unique that the other 5Cs do not. I think "pecking order" is more something the online dofusarati invest in than is a actual phenomenon for 5C students. DD has taken great classes at Pomona at the other 5Cs, has friends in the other 5Cs, and does social and club activities at the other 5Cs. That said, I think Pomona and CMC stand out in terms of financial aid, although Scripps isn't bad. And Scripps and Pomona stand out in terms of campus beauty. But overall, the 5Cs are great.

That said, if you want to see how the 5Cs have fun with their own stereotypes, these satiric applications from the Golden Antler from 2013 are a good laugh:

CA poster here. My husband went to Pomona back in the day. It's a nice place, but a bit of a bubble, in a small-ish town that has a suburb feel. LA is not close but you can get there in 1-1.5 hrs.

There is easy mixing between the schools but they do have attitude about each other.

Hogwarts house comparisons are shared by tour guides of each school (except CMC lol):

Pomona: Griffyndor
Mudd: Ravenclaw
Pitzer: Hufflepuff
Scripps: Beaux-batons
Claremont Mckenna: Slytherin

it's a lot easier to get into Scripps and Pitzer than the other three

This crowd? Yeah, not happening.

So many DCUM posters seem to live in a cartoon world where they are sure that their bizarre uninformed opinions dictate reality.

In the real world, half my kid’s tours of the 5Cs were DMV kids, the family sitting next to us at drop off were from Silver Spring, and my kid lived with his high school bestie all 4 years.

If this is true, why would anyone go across the country for a mini UMD at double the price?

You are proving the PP’s point: you live in a fictional world.

Fiction is thinking a college most have never heard of is better than a flagship

LOL

There is a whole amazing world that exists outside of College Park. You should get out sometime.

Harvey Mudd differs significantly from the others by being STEM focused.

HM these days also is a lottery for admissions. They receive many more well qualified applicants than they have openings.

Junior at Pomona has nothing bad to say about the school and the consortium except it needs improvement like installing A/C in all dorms.

They’re completely different schools and would not agree to a single application lol.

Your second comment is mostly bs.

One app for all and you get admitted to the best fit or rejected from them all.

You can just apply to them then? I’m not sure the reasoning you have. They have separate admissions departments and schools.

It’s inefficient

Do you know how complicated it would be trying to create an entering class at Harvey Mudd while also considering the entering class at CMC?

You might as well say the entire Ivy league should work off of one application.

Most engineers have heard of Harvey Mudd.

How do HM graduates do in the securing a job outside of CA versus those who graduated from a public flagship with a reputable engineering school?
