Why are Tech Bros so obsessed with guaranteed income?

Lawyers cannot be replaced. I mean they are all in Congress right. So they will come up with additional rules that will shield them.

Tell your kids to become lawyers because if lawyers are replaced that will be the wind of the world lol.

Can you image in America, lawyers giving up that extravagant lifestyle lmao. Hell no. They will take the country down with them.

They aren't any closer to replacing the surgeons either.

Many surgeons use robotic arms. Soon, we won’t need humans to operate them.

Girl, what are you going on about? my spouse is an orthopedic surgeon and utilizes robot assisted surgery multiple times a week. Who do you think is operating said robotic arm? It does not run itself. The reaosn is is used is to minimize the incision site and to be able to get the camera into small spaces and do detailed small form surgery. surgeons are not going anywhere, as a matter of fact so many are retiring we are about to have a crisis and wait taimes for surgery could lead to at best lowered life expectance and poor QOL or at worse death waiting. The reason to NOT become a surgeon is you are worked to death due to a massive shortage of surgeons.

That’s what people said when self-driving cars came out. How can a machine know where to turn, stop, go left, go right, slam breaks to avoid hitting something, etc…well, now we have self-driving cars.

AI and ML are already doing so much we humans used to do and doing a much better job of it!

Trust me when I tell you that healthcare of the future will involve little human input. I trust a machine much more than a human who could be tired, sleep-deprived, distracted, etc….

Studies have already shown that AI performs better than radiologists for detecting disease on imaging studies (X-rays, etc.)

Self driving cars also going nowhere fast right now. You can do better

The surgical environment is radically more controlled than driving in open space. With imaging technology you can map out much of the area. A surgeons expertise is precision and calm while cutting open another human, and having the muscle memory for doing the exact thing they had planned to do. There can be hiccups, but it’s not like you get a snowstorm in the operating theater. Most can be planned for and with the huge cost reductions it will be here soon.

No way they will offer UBI to all of us. Already no universal healthcare, “ get your a$$ back to office 5 days week” and calling SS and Medicare “entitlements”. lol as if this would ever happen.

Why does Musk worry about depopulation meanwhile lets people die from starvation?

If the work is already being done by a robotic arm, all you need is AI to evaluate and manipulate the arms. With a shortage of surgeons their will be huge money in this, and accelerate the transition.

I assume you don’t work in an office if you don’t understand that if a robot is doing the dextrous work, then software can easily take over the job.

🤣🤡

When electricity was first introduced, many were terrified of the new technology and refused to adopt it.

“But my candles work perfectly fine!” And “my candles are safer since I don’t have to worry about getting electrocuted!” And “now I have to buy light bulbs, I can’t afford the added expense!” “And what if there’s a power outage?! I don’t want to depend on utilities to get light!” “At least my candles are dependable!”

You anti-AI folks sound like that.

I said something similar when I first heard about UBI. If we can’t get universal healthcare, we’ll never get UBI.

Oh, I forgot about all of his efforts to combat hunger. What were they again? Most of the world's richest people have charitable foundations and efforts. What were his again?

I don’t know about tech bros but I’d like to see restaurant servers, delivery people and uber drivers have UBI and be replaced by robots because robots at least don’t give me attitude and hopefully are reasonably competent.

I assume sterilization will be a condition for getting UBI. Basically if you cant figure out how to sustain yourself, society will support you and then its the end of your gene line more or less.

You get “dignity” from … work?

Weird. So weird.

Work is highly overrated. You are probably the only one on the planet who thinks like this.

There is literally 2000+ years worth of theology and philosophy about the moral value of work.

Colossians 3:23-25: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

2 Thessalonians 3:6, “For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.”

A society reliant on UBI without jobs to keep people occupied and give their lives structure is not going to go well.

OP is talking about Universal Basic Income (UBI). It's the idea of guaranteeing all people some basic financial subsistence, paid out as a government benefit, regardless of whether they work or not.

A lot of tech bros like UBI because it's their proposed solution to automation and AI making so many jobs obsolete.

It was once a far left idea, a form of socialism, but due to AI it's become more embraced by libertarians or corporate tech bros, and people on the left are more likely to talk about using social democratic ideas to protect jobs.

This. AI will kill so many jobs. Universal basic income is a way to give most people welfare when our American unemployment rate skyrockets to 25 pct.

+1 I have no idea what OP is talking about. What tech bros and what are you chooing to listen to? Turn it off if you don't like it. Go for a run without ear buds.

Work is important. Early retirees face up to 20% higher likelihood of death. There is a death spike at age 62 even after accounting for regular causes.

Define "tech bro." "Technology brother"? What even is that?

I want to work. It gives me dignity. I don't want some random dude with flip flop wearing short and a wrinkly shirt, weird AF, can barely make a normal eye contact telling giving his opinion about my life

Just why?

Well, I would like the dignity of not working, because the idea that I need to work to live is ridiculous. I like the idea of AI doing everything, and I get guaranteed income to do whatever I want to do to enjoy myself and my time on earth.

America does not believe in everyone being equal. Why do you think we have zoning? There is nothing more American than driving by some neighborhood and seeing pristine homes with beautiful streets secluded from the mass and then a few miles away people on top of each other with terrible road.

That's called affording nice things because you have money? Why can't I pay more to have nice stuff?
