AI and automation and robotics are predicted to wipe out like 3/4’s of all jobs. Guaranteed income is bandied about as a solution. However, it doesn’t account for a myriad of other considerations like what people do without a traditional purpose. We’ll fkin see tho won’t we! |
A lot of surgeries are not done using robotic arms and most robotic arms are nowhere near being automated -- the surgeon is still making all decisions, they are just doing it using a robotic arm in order to facilitate minimally invasive surgery and very precise techniques. So I don't know what you mean by "soon." |

I must not listen to as much drivel as you. Maybe turn off the podcast when you don't like what you are hearing?
Regardless, sounds pretty amazing, I'd love to get income without working. I'm 48 and HATE working. I can think of aobut 100 things I'd rather do each day than sit in front of a computer and make someone else rich. |
Girl, what are you going on about? my spouse is an orthopedic surgeon and utilizes robot assisted surgery multiple times a week. Who do you think is operating said robotic arm? It does not run itself. The reaosn is is used is to minimize the incision site and to be able to get the camera into small spaces and do detailed small form surgery. surgeons are not going anywhere, as a matter of fact so many are retiring we are about to have a crisis and wait taimes for surgery could lead to at best lowered life expectance and poor QOL or at worse death waiting. The reason to NOT become a surgeon is you are worked to death due to a massive shortage of surgeons. |
I have bridge to sell you - excellent deal |
The vast majority of men with criminal records happen to be unemployed, chronically underemployed or completely out of the workforce Just saying |
| We’re not made to be idle. Some people would thrive; most would flail. |
| This is basically socialism/ communism and guess what? It was a failure. The problem is that when everyone owns everything, no one owns anything. and that income will not be enough, you can be sure of that. |

Tech Bros? Could you be any more offensive.
Many tech companies pay in stock and in other ways and your income becomes based off the stock value at the time AND you have to pay taxes the day the stock vests. You cannot count on that given the market goes up and down. You cannot choose the day it vests. We had a heavy stock job for one spouse and it was stressful. We didn't live off the stock but the income greatly varied. So much better without it now. |
Do you just enjoy being offended? With all the problems in the world, calling Musk, Thiel, Altman, etc Tech Bros is hardly the end of the world. Unless you’re a billionaire, the term doesn’t apply to you. Also the OP should have used UBI (universal basic income) as others already posted. |
You are far too informed for DCUM! |
What is holding you back? I retired at 48 having made ca $2k a month for 30 years. Not having to work for money is the best. |
No it’s pretty common actually. It gives dignity and purpose to most. |
If the work is already being done by a robotic arm, all you need is AI to evaluate and manipulate the arms. With a shortage of surgeons their will be huge money in this, and accelerate the transition. I assume you don’t work in an office if you don’t understand that if a robot is doing the dextrous work, then software can easily take over the job. |
| I’m impressed with the tech bro grasps of history — they know that if their technology instantiates, widespread, poverty and pain, there will be pitchforks and calls to eat the rich. They can at least claim they were looking amount for the little people by asking for UBI. |
