Why do people who prioritize their spouses over their parents get so much heat?

Just so you know, "women in the U.S. gained the legal right to open bank accounts, obtain credit cards, and secure loans without a male co-signer nationwide following the passage of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act in 1974". There are countries NOW where women are not allowed to own anything nor even show up in public without a male chaperone.
