FCPS closed Monday

Now is the time to get this in policy for 26-27. If they don’t completely get rid of the early release date, which they should, it should be explicit that a month that includes a closure, delay, or early dismissal for weather will not also have early release.

It was 8 days when the 1979 snow storm hit.

Are you crazy? How’s it the fault of teachers? I am a FCPS parent but it’s just a difficult situation. Shame on you for saying nasty stuff about teachers.

Thank you. I find the teacher hate a bit scary and very disheartening.

There is only teacher hate because teachers are always loudly wanting schools to close.

They were not hired to do that, those duties are not in their contract, that is a custodial duty and falls within that job description. These are professionals, they’re not indentured servants of the school system who have to do whatever tasks pop up. I’m trying to envision any of you who work average business jobs thinking it would be reasonable to be called in and forced to shovel your building’s parking lots to appease the client. You’re asinine, get a grip.

Who is saying they should go in and shovel? The suggestions have all been about countering upcoming teacher workdays by having teachers go in tomorrow and work on independent planning, grading, etc.

We need to email and ask for that!

Why would they do that? Even with another snow day tomorrow, we have used less than half of the snow days that we banked for the school year. Get a grip.

Ohhh. You're completely right, sweetie. Let's keep doing the minimum required by law.

Schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, February 2, as we work with VDOT to safely clear the roads and sidewalks for our eleventy million kids.

We look forward to reopening when the following conditions can safely be met:

-x
-y
-Z

If these conditions cannot be met by [this date], this is the plan [insert plan here].

Thank you for your flexibility and patience as we navigate the aftermath of this absolutely ridiculous snowstorm.

You stay warm, Fairfax County.

I know! I hate these evasive emails.

This reminds me of Kentucky school districts

17:09 on page 2:

“Then use the contract hours. Teacher should come in and do the planning/training that leads to the early release days in elementary school. Those days can then be canceled. Teachers who do not have planning or training to do can help remove snow. Then they will be fulfilling their contract and certainly earning their money.”

Stop.

The single poster who keeps posting this on multiple threads is so tiresome.

There's dozens of us. Dozens.

SACC is open all day? How could they arrange that?

The early releases really need to be canceled.
Reid snuck them in again this year without notice or justification. The previous year they were announced very late with the stated justification being new state mandates training. There was no reason given for this year.

Wow, you really grew into a spiteful and mean-spirited person. I can guarantee your child is a much better person than you are.

DP and no, there’s not.

There are just a couple LOUD posters who love to antagonize teachers.

It’s tiresome and it’s time for you to stop. You aren’t ticking off lazy teachers. You are frustrating the hard-working ones who sacrifice for YOUR family all of the time.

So grow up.

They’re evasive by design. The plan is clearly to open on Tuesday even if nothing changes tomorrow.
