They can’t. There is a contract! 🤣🤣🤣

Then use the contract hours. Teacher should come in and do the planning/training that leads to the early release days in elementary school. Those days can then be canceled. Teachers who do not have planning or training to do can help remove snow. Then they will be fulfilling their contract and certainly earning their money.

Are you crazy? How’s it the fault of teachers? I am a FCPS parent but it’s just a difficult situation. Shame on you for saying nasty stuff about teachers.

Thank you. I find the teacher hate a bit scary and very disheartening.

Guys stop blaming teachers. Many of them are stuck home with their own children through all of this and would probably much prefer to get back to work and have all the kids back at school. My child's HS teachers have been in touch frequently during the closure and are clearly concerned about covering the material needed before May. They are working, hard, care about their students, and shouldn't be blamed for the superintendent and school board's decisions.

Why would they do that? Even with another snow day tomorrow, we have used less than half of the snow days that we banked for the school year. Get a grip.

Her emails are so cringe. Just say:

Schools will be closed tomorrow, Monday, February 2, as we work with VDOT to safely clear the roads and sidewalks for our eleventy million kids.

We look forward to reopening when the following conditions can safely be met:

-x
-y
-Z

If these conditions cannot be met by [this date], this is the plan [insert plan here].

Thank you for your flexibility and patience as we navigate the aftermath of this absolutely ridiculous snowstorm.

You stay warm, Fairfax County.

Sincerely,

Someone who gets to the point

Tomorrow will the 4th snow day, and the county calendar builds in 8 snow days.

No one is blaming teachers, we're just trying to find a way to have less teacher workdays coming up if at all possible. And by teachers working tomorrow maybe we wouldn't need the workday on 2/17.

They need to cancel all the 3 hour early releases that are still scheduled until the end of the school year.

It’s not “blame” to say that we should use this time where children are not in the classroom to minimize unnecessary time elsewhere in the calendar where children aren’t in the classroom. There’s no reason to be early releasing elementary school students for the rest of the year if teachers are going to be home and unoccupied for the same number of hours this week. It’s not blame to use resources wisely.

Some of you seem to not know what a contract is . You can’t force teachers to come to school and clear snow. They were not hired to do that, those duties are not in their contract, that is a custodial duty and falls within that job description. These are professionals, they’re not indentured servants of the school system who have to do whatever tasks pop up. I’m trying to envision any of you who work average business jobs thinking it would be reasonable to be called in and forced to shovel your building’s parking lots to appease the client. You’re asinine, get a grip.
