To the probable troll who keeps talking about phone batteries dying: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Portable-Charger-Battery-Included-dp-B0FM2X9H9H

I have a smaller "lipstick" style battery in my purse, and one of these that lives in my suitcase. My kids have the same setup. I also have a couple of older/larger versions that still function fine. We've had ample notice of this storm so they're all charged. I can recharge my phone, like, 6 or 7 times before even needing to worry about it. I have a powerstation if/when these give out, or if I feel like running the router or other things.

This is basic readiness. It's not that deep.

How do you get hot water without electricity for the bath?

Bought a few books at bookstore today so I would read and declutter. I’ll probably download British bake off episodes and a couple movies too.

How do you guys heat your home? Do you have pellet stoves or something?

I don't think we will lose power, but if we did, it would NOT be pleasant when the heat is gone.

Gas

A standard gas furnace still needs electricity to run...

Are you really worried about boredom and not freezing? Wow, I spend all day with screens more than any human should but I am truly flummoxed by your idea that if we lose electricity the biggest challenge will be the crushing boredom. Have you never been in a house where the inside air temperature got below 45 ? I remember sitting with my mother in bed with an ironing board with every candle we could find to burn burning on it in a 2 day power outage. I promise you we were not bored.

Assuming the small change I were facing "boredom" I am thinking that the current snow will be awesome for snowmen and sculptures, I still have 5 voluems left of Proust to read. Not to mention poetry. I can make pasta the old fashioned way. My son has a really cool marble run set. We have three jigsaw puzzles. Cards. I have some papers I'd love to read for my job as a professor and correct that are easy enough to read on my ipad or printed (as they are already printed). and yes, I have a full tank of gas and multiple batteries to charge .

Well since I grew up w/o the benefit of WiFi (am 57 👨🏻‍🦳) I would do what I used to do when stuck inside >> read a good book.
