These kind of silly plans are self defeating. I understand the concept but this is. Losing strategy as you can't make it effective without 100% buy in - which won't ever happen.
Come up with something less dramatic and more practical. Like actual candidates worthy of support in leadership positions so we can collectively be confident in our government. We live in a capitalist society so anything trying to detour profit making is just ineffective. Good luck living in the US without buying anything to survive and thrive. I'm as anti Trump as you can get and livid at all the billionaires and big business esp tech that's corrupted our morality but seriously this general strike is a joke. All you hurt is yourself. Shut down for 1 day? Besides inconveniencing yourself there's no other impact. |
You also need the part that earns money and pays taxes, unless you prefer less in the way of taxpayer-funded services. By taking a day out of the economy, you take a day's worth of tax income away from whatever it is used to fund, including social services so dear to liberal hearts. It's counterproductive. |
+1 Thank you for your practical, commonsense post. |
Tell that to an hourly wage worker with kids. |
Yup. The standard liberal canard - sacrifice is fine, as long as it doesn't affect me. Tax the people who are wealthier than I am, but don't increase my taxes! |
You don't need 100% buy in. You need 3.5%, according to the research. The only thing self-defeating is your attitude. |
I won't. I cancelled my prime the day Bezos cut the Post endorsement of Harris. Haven't missed it at all |
Do you enjoy freedom or not? Inconvenience is part of the deal. |
More practical?! Getting candidates with integrity is a great idea for the medium or long term. But we are facing a crisis now! We can't survive much more of the damage that is being done. |
It's a defeatist attitude post and I seriously doubt she is anti Trump. Boycotts, work to rule, and general strikes worked very well for Viet Nam and Civil Rights. |
| I get that Minnesota has strong ancestral ties t Scandinavia, but this kind of collective action isn’t going to work here in America, even given how furious people are. |
Does that make you feel better? Why didn’t more Democrats vote? One day strike? |
I work in schools with kids whose families have 4 kids in a 2 BR apt. Their dads mow lawns. Moms are housekeepers. They can't stay home with their kids. Get real. |
| Absolutely not. As a teacher, I barely get any personal days and I need to give 30 days notice to use them. I’m not fake calling in sick and risking my job for something like this, which, hurts kids and families. I’m a responsible adult and have better things to do, like my job. |
This. When did Americans become so soft? Look at South Korea! Look at France! Also the last No Kings was about 7 million people. And this was before ICE summarily executed a U.S. citizen. 3.5% is about 12 million. |
