OP. My DS was direct admit to Kelley for Finance. |
Direct admit for 2nd PP |
| Kid got the email too -- admitted for Biology. 4.0uw/4.3w, 1450. According to what we've read online, any merit comes later with snail mail. |
My DD also got the same letter. I thought it meant we will hear back on direct admit at regular decision time. If next opportunity to get into Kelly is for Sophomoe year, the requirements are stringent. Need to have A- in all classes. |
| Where do you get this info. Need to pass it on to my son. Thanks |

It's on Kelley website -https://kelley.iu.edu/undergraduate/admissions/current-iu/2026-criteria.html
How are pre-business students admitted to Kelley? Automatic admission Students whose records indicate grades of A- or better in every IU Bloomington course on the first attempt will be automatically admitted. Comprehensive review Students whose records indicate any of the following will have their applications comprehensively reviewed by the Kelley Admissions Committee. The admissions committee reviews grades in all IU Bloomington courses, not just business courses. A student with any of the following risk factors is in jeopardy of their standard admission application being denied. Any grade below an A- (B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D-, or F) in an IU Bloomington course. Withdrawals (W’s), X’s ( X grade replacement policy), or unresolved incompletes (I's) Students whose applications will undergo a comprehensive review should meet with their Advising & Major Exploration Services to ensure they are creating a plan and enrolling in courses for their alternative major in case they are not admitted to Kelley. Students whose records indicate two unsuccessful attempts to complete a single I-Core prerequisite, including grades below a C, withdrawals (W’s), incompletes (I’s), and X grades, will have their applications automatically denied." |
From what I’ve read, the pre-business program is something of a bait and switch. Students that were admitted in this program previously were advised that they would receive a direct admit upon receiving a B+ or higher only to have standards changed after they accepted. (My understanding parents are considering suing the school). Not sure I would trust sending my child there unless they had full admission to the business school (or you’re 100% certain your kid can pull down straight A’s freshman year). |
Pretty sure this was just one DCUM Karen. |
| Does anyone on this board have a kid considering Indiana NOT for Kelley or performing arts? DC is considering the HR degree there which is technically part of the Public Policy school. Wondering if they will feel “less than” academically the whole 4 years for not being part of Kelley or some well known program. |
| I don't think that kids not in Kelley or PA feel less than. I think some people in the Kelley program think they are better than others. I have a kid at IU now. It is a big university and my CAS kid doesn't really run into to many Kelley students in classes. |
You just need to follow Barstool Indiana. Kelley kids are the joke of the campus. It is everyone else....then the Kelley kids. It is funny and has been a "thing" on campus for years. Most kids aren't in Kelley. |
Business majors are brand-conscious and prestige-oriented at most schools. That drives hype for business schools. But Indiana was considered strong for many majors and grad studies well before the BBA trend got big. My son applied to Indiana for Public Policy. He is at Michigan now. We are in-state and overall that was the right choice. However, us parents were very impressed with Indiana after a week spent there with our kids at a high school extracurricular conference. My husband had also applied to Indiana for grad school but got a better scholarship from Georgetown so had never visited. It's very competitive with other flagships we have been to. As an MBA, I think the better questions are "Why an HR degree" and "Why is HR in the Public Policy school"? I don't follow HR matters much but I'm a bit surprised that it's in the Public Policy school domain. However, I don't think that would impact teaching or coursework very much. Like this student, she could go for a Kelley minor. https://oneill.indiana.edu/undergraduate/degrees-majors/human-resource.html If your DD is interested in HR, I recommend the HR executive blogger Hebba Youssef. I like her POV and she has a free weekly newsletter that your DD can get to understand what the industry is like. To confirm her interest. https://hateithere.co/ |

My understanding is that there were three kinds of admissions for business. 1) direct admit - congrats, you’re in. 2) pre-business and will hear about direct admit later - you’re in for pre-business and waitlisted for direct admit, meaning you might get direct admit at some point before classes start As it all depends on how many direct admits commit to the school. If you don’t get direct admit, you will be pre-business. 3) pre-business - you are in IU, you must take Kelly classes freshman year, get grades higher than a stated level in all classes, and you are welcome to apply for admission to Kelley at the end of freshman year.
Please understand that in recent years Kelley gets approximately 80% of their students via direct admit and fewer than 1/3 of the pre-business students are successful in their attempt to gain admission. |

Thank you. I’m the pp with the HR major accepted at Indiana. I’m an MBA too but was a liberal arts undergrad. I have a lot of corporate experience and so does DH so we know how to guide her there. It’s just somewhat unique to IU that HR is not in the business school. She is interested in the HR major, but she’s accepted to some other schools as a general business major. I think HR interest her but she’s open to other careers as well. It feels like all the talk off this board is the Kelley program though. |
