[google]

Does anyone on this board have a kid considering Indiana NOT for Kelley or performing arts? DC is considering the HR degree there which is technically part of the Public Policy school. Wondering if they will feel “less than” academically the whole 4 years for not being part of Kelley or some well known program.
Business majors are brand-conscious and prestige-oriented at most schools. That drives hype for business schools. But Indiana was considered strong for many majors and grad studies well before the BBA trend got big. My son applied to Indiana for Public Policy. He is at Michigan now. We are in-state and overall that was the right choice. However, us parents were very impressed with Indiana after a week spent there with our kids at a high school extracurricular conference. My husband had also applied to Indiana for grad school but got a better scholarship from Georgetown so had never visited. It's very competitive with other flagships we have been to. As an MBA, I think the better questions are "Why an HR degree" and "Why is HR in the Public Policy school"? I don't follow HR matters much but I'm a bit surprised that it's in the Public Policy school domain. However, I don't think that would impact teaching or coursework very much. Like this student, she could go for a Kelley minor. https://oneill.indiana.edu/undergraduate/degrees-majors/human-resource.html If your DD is interested in HR, I recommend the HR executive blogger Hebba Youssef. I like her POV and she has a free weekly newsletter that your DD can get to understand what the industry is like. To confirm her interest. https://hateithere.co/
Thank you. I’m the pp with the HR major accepted at Indiana. I’m an MBA too but was a liberal arts undergrad. I have a lot of corporate experience and so does DH so we know how to guide her there. It’s just somewhat unique to IU that HR is not in the business school. She is interested in the HR major, but she’s accepted to some other schools as a general business major. I think HR interest her but she’s open to other careers as well. It feels like all the talk off this board is the Kelley program though.
