Would you send your DC to HYP so that they will find a quant job?

That list includes grad school so not a true UG list.

That's not true. Show where it states that. Also, anyways, news flash, grad school is relevant to the stature of the undergrad program and the overall job network.

The top 20-30 schools all feed…you have to pass the math and other interview challenges so it’s a bit more meritocratic.

I think everyone is too obsessed with quant vs other non-quant hedge fund positions. Quant is a very small group, while Citadel, Point 72 and other hire many more for portfolio management and other non-quant positions.

For those jobs, the top schools have outsized representation, especially Wharton and Harvard.

I agree that people are too obsessed with it. But most non-quant portfolio management jobs are limited out of undergrad and require some experience first. So I get why this forum doesn’t focus on them.

a girl on my kid's dorm at Yale had a Jane Street internship last summer. Major was philosophy. No double major. No nepo

If they care about money they wouldn’t be in government.

DP but it’s quite the opposite. Power in government can get you very rich. Look at the presidents, senators and congressmen. You’re an idiot if you don’t see this.

Presidents, senators and congressmen get rich and then run for office. Look at the ages of the people in those seats.

Some do but most are the opposite. Look at Clinton, Obama, Pelosi etc.

Pelosi? She’s retiring from congress at 85 and has been in for 40 years. She’s not cashing in now.

Yep. It's the same poster here that keeps wanting people to believe the Top Engineering School grads are clamoring for the life of quant. Comes back every time quant is mentioned in a thread.

I don’t even know what a quant job is. Please understand that you only a tiny subset of the population must be interested in those.

But a school like UIUC is placing more quant software developers so they are CS majors.

Better yet. Explain to us what life looks like for new engineering grad in quant. Life, location, work life balance, hours they can expect to work weekly. What can they expect to be doing everyday at their new jobs? What innovative things will these young engineers be creating that are changing the world? Please do this without talking about the money made because a lot of engineering fields make really good money that will give most comfortable lives. Thanks.

Caltech, Princeton, Berkeley, MIT, CMU, Harvard.

UIUC per the link someone posted

DC (UMD) is headed to one of the quant firms in Chicago.

Then she is not in trading at Jane Street. There are other roles at JS.

So yeah, can confirm that OP is correct.

Quants at Jane Street and similar places earn typically 1 to 6 million per year many without advanced degrees. Selection is extremely competitive. While IBs such as GS would have around .6-.7% acceptance rate for their selections, Jane Street and similar places would be around .1 or less much more selective than Harvard which has around 4% acceptance rate..

You are definitely a quant because you did not pick up on the sarcasm at all.

Working as a quant is a super narrow niche. The vast majority of people who end up doing it are off the charts smart. They are true intellects who usually end up in the field by accident. Many don't transition to finance until their 30s.

If your DMV magnet school striver who thinks they are a super duper snowflake math genius because they took calc as a freshman or sophomore has been gunning to be a quant since they are 12, they probably aren't going to make it. I would cast a wider net.

Threads like this advertise the naivete and ignorance of most people at DCUM.

It amazes me how DCUM posters just want to outright lie about anything and everything. There were 7 Yale interns at Jane Street last summer and ALL of them were STEM majors.

Are you a stalker? Or do you just need a hobby? Every time a poster here mentions Jane Street the world gets a little dumber...
