Seems many parents are doing that. They would causally mention that now their DCs work a quantitative finanace job at Jane Street, and I can see they are super proud.
Why would you do that? Don't you go to HYP to change the world? I can understand kids who go to MIT CMU etc tech schools do that. But HYP? |
| are you stupid? so many go into consulting from hyp. why is this any different |
Nah. $$$ |
| Harvard and Yale alum care about money over ethics. It’s why so many are in government. |
How many people have actually done this with you? How many parents of kids at Harvard are you talking to |
|
My kid wanted to change the world. I slapped him, wrapped him in a box, and mailed him to Harvard with a note saying he needed a quant job at Jane Street.
So yeah, can confirm that OP is correct. |
They are in government - DOJ and State Department. |
| What is Jane Street? |
Quants at Jane Street and similar places earn typically 1 to 6 million per year many without advanced degrees. Selection is extremely competitive. While IBs such as GS would have around .6-.7% acceptance rate for their selections, Jane Street and similar places would be around .1 or less much more selective than Harvard which has around 4% acceptance rate.. |
| You cannot get into Jane Street unless you are very strong in math and physics. If you truly are very good at math they will interview from any school. The top schools at Jane Street are MIT, Harvard, Stanford and Berkeley but the common thread is being strong at math. |
| Vast majority of HYP students aren’t good enough for Jane Street anyways. You’re just deluding yourself regardless of your opinion of a quant job. |
You don’t get to tell people what’s the right thing to do and what’s not. Most changed the world for worse anyways. So… |
So saying to send someone to HYP for Jane Street is really funny. |
The difference is quant jobs come with much more money so people are jealous. |
And another idealistic 90s kid crashes headlong into the 2026 college landscape. Welcome, it’s weird, twisted and toxic here. |
