Not all adults want to be serious. And if you can’t take someone seriously just because of their first name, then you are the one who is closed minded. I have friends named Bambi, Jolly, Zizi, etc and they’re all successful in both careers and relationships. |

Ridiculous. It is every bit as "serious" as Hillary, Leslie, Abbie, Kathy, Emily, Sally, Ali, Lori, Mindy, etc that millions of serious professional adult women have. We've had presidential candidates named Hillary, Nikki, Amy, Tulsi, Carly. |

You have presented a mix of classic, "serious enough for an adult" names and golden retriever names. I don't see how you can think Nikki and Lori and Carly, for example, are anywhere near the same as Hillary or Katherine or Emily, to be honest. Completely different connotation. Can you really not see that? Hailey/Hayley is also a good name for a golden retriever. Not a serious name for an adult human, as a PP noted. |

In my mind, Lori is much more serious than Emily. Emily sounds childlike to me. It truly is all subjective. |

Please do tell us what the difference is between Hillary and Hayley, names that sound virtually the same. Or Emily and Hayley. I personally think Nikki is a terrible name. But I also think her presence on the political scene is evidence that concern about golden retriever, unserious names is pretty silly, especially when paired with statements like "Hillary and Emily are 'serious enough' but Hayley isn't". "Serious enough?" LOL. |

When you have babies currently being named things like Jagger, Ryker, Atlas, Scottie (on a girl), Truce, River (all actual names that I’ve seen)... I don’t think Hailey/Hayley will present any challenges with being taken seriously.
Your perspective changes once you realize that baby naming has become (over time) a contest in “uniqueness” and individuality rather than picking a nice, respectable name for your child. 😳 I’ll take 95% of the names that were popular in the 50s/60s/70s/80s/90s/00s over the naming style that is popular now. |

I come from a culture where the meaning of names is very important. I think that’s why names like Kylie, Kelsey, Hayley, etc just don’t feel substantive.

The original Hayley, Hayley Mills, was given her mother's maiden name. So Hayley is a surname and it is similar to other old English surnames ending in -ley.
