I did not recommend either Reed or Wesleyan; OP wrote in the thread opening post that OP's son liked Reed & Wes among several other schools. CMC is easy to stereotype because it is small & the stereotype is almost 100% accurate. |
| Adding Grinnell - similar to Kenyon in many ways |
What’s your experience with Claremont McKenna? You sound very sure of yourself. |
From the west coast and have never heard of this. You sure you’re talking about the right school? Claremont McKenna is known as athletic but very nerdy- hell their favorite things to do on the weekend is dress up and listen to philosophers, political theorists, and writers. When we last toured, there was a class outside debating the value of Franciscan thought in the modern church and our guide’s favorite class was a gender studies course. Of the 5Cs it reminds me the most of my own northeast liberal arts college experience. |

I'll echo the CMC recommendation. I have a DC at Pomona, and there's some truth to what people are saying about CMC. But, as usual, what starts with a tiny bit of truth somehow become hyperbolic gospel to many.
I'd also recommend Dartmouth, which is LAC-like, strong in government, and has produced a number of creative types. |
| Washington College. |
Can you discuss what is true about CMC it’s hard to get info on the college that isn’t just boring drivel about how much a parent hates white athletes. |
You can think of nothing in between black out drunk and discussing Darwin on weekends? Guess what? Not all college kids drink, and nondrinkers also have fun. And is it really :fun: to be black out drunk? Mostly, for women especially, it is very dangerous. |
Sounds like you can't. This is a weird fantasy you created where a bunch of vulnerable women are laying on the side while rapacious drunkard men are all running about violently. I don't know if this is a personal problem with the school, but an adult should be a bit more mature. |
What people are hinting at is the tension CMC always had had as a "practical" liberal arts college. Here's an article to learn more and see the true nerdy energy CMC has: https://www.cmcforum.com/post/is-cmc-s-mission-at-odds-with-the-liberal-arts |
| Kenyon is having financial problems. Might add Holy Cross solid top 25 LAC located I hour to Boston. |
Shit college. |
| Kenyon is a good LAC but Holy Cross is more prestigious especially in DC. |
Kenyon is not having serious financial concerns. |
