What we call evil is nothing more than when a person or persons put their own wants, needs, desires, interests ahead of anyone else(s).
We live in a society influenced by theology that constantly tells people that "God has a plan" for them and their life has meaning and purpose. Reality is there is no meaning or pupose. |
There is a word for someone who puts other people’s needs before themselves: putz. |
|
Why do people assert that a god wouldn't let kids get cancer. Are they ok with animals eating other animals?
Maybe god just set things up in this universe with the band and lets the pinball game play on. In other universes, maybe something else. |
| I mean bang not band. But play on! |
Most people assert that God, and especially his one "form" of Jesus, is all-loving. Your "pinball" analogy actually highlights the problem rather than solving it. If God is just an indifferent observer who set the Big Bang in motion and walked away, then he isn’t the "loving, personal God" most people believe in. He’s just a cosmic engineer who doesn't care where the ball lands. Comparing animal predation to childhood cancer is a false equivalence. A lion eats to survive. Cancer serves no biological purpose for the child. If an all-powerful Creator designed a system where innocent children must suffer, we have to ask why a perfect being couldn't design a universe that functions without that cruelty. God can't be both all-loving and an indifferent spectator who let the game break. |
With your own logic: Why would people assert ANYTHING about a god, including knowledge of the existence of one? Great question. |
| Only on dcum would multiple people pretend they know with certainty there is or isn’t a God or gods. |
| Pinball poster here. Evolution rolls on in this universe. Cancer, but brains to progress science too. |
I asked this question when I was little but never had a good answer: if there is a god, why does s/he come out and show him/herself to us? Why do we have to believe him/her without any good evidence? What purpose does it serve to force anybody to blindly believe in something? And also, if god is all powerful and creates each and every person, why does s/he give higher critical thinking abilities and skepticism only to a percentage of humankind? Again, what purpose does this serve? If god wanted everybody to believe, s/he could have done that. Why create a child knowing very well they will end up in hell because they won't believe that god exists. One argument against this is those who are not capable of believing because god didn't create them that way won't go to hell, but then why is god pushing this constant fear that non-believers will burn in eternity. So many holes in this entire mythology. |
| God doesn't push that. People do. |
Then offer up your evidence to prove it. |
They are definitely NOT thinking about it....religious belief hijacks and lives in the amygdala...quite the opposite of the part of your brain required to think critically and logically. In addition, those two parts of your brain cannot really function well when the other is in charge. So religious indoctrination and belief turn OFF the part of your brain necessary for critical thinking (the prefrontal cortex). How convenient. Also explains A LOT |
Pssst —- there isn’t a Bigfoot either. I’m sure of it. |
Or leprechauns, or unicorns, or the flying spaghetti monster. But PPP thinks that person's on DCUM aren't smart enough to figure that out. |
I know with certainly that a pink elephant - or an elephant of any color - did NOT set the world in motion. How about you? |
