Not to mention the surrounding Maryland Counties proficiency rates:
Frederick: ELA 63 percent proficient Math 36.8 percent Howard: ELA 65.2 percent Math 42 percent MCPS trails them both in attendance (Montgomery 92.5, Frederick 93.9, Howard 93.8) and chronic absence (Montgomery 22.6, Frederick 16.7, Howard 17.4) rates as well. Sure some of the percentages differences might not be big. But look at the cost of living difference between the counties too. So Virginia is not the only place for people to look elsewhere |
So, like if you throw out the one or two top ranked schools, most of MCPS is basically below average education wise. |
Which was always the case. MCPS's reputation used to be carried by it's top schools and is what it would always boast and brag about. It wasn't until achievement gaps became a factor for rankings when it started to look into it's struggling populations. |
And this is exactly why I say MCPS should move Wootton to Crown and pull in kids from QO, Gaithersburg and Wootton. Wootton parents are involved and they will make any school better. Move Dufief and Travilah to QO. And move Fields Road, Diamond, Brown Station to Crown AKA Wootton. Mix up the Browns and Blacks with Asians. Region 5 has to improve and Option H is the best chance MCPS has got. |
