Our younger kids went to a highly rated AP school and, with a couple of exceptions, had stronger teachers than at the less affluent IB school that our oldest child attended.  I'm not saying our experience was universal or carries more weight, but it differed from yours.  [/quote]

I had several kids in one of the top pyramids.  There were ALOT of great teachers (one of which admin ran off), some so-so teachers, and a few abysmal ones.

It was luck of the draw.  Some years a kid got all great teachers, sometimes a mix.

Activities were top notch, 50/50 experience with sports (the girls varsity soccer coach was both egotistical and incompetent).

Having a school with few behavior problems is also no small matter.[/quote]
