Pomona has 1766 undergrads
436 freshman
155 freshman submitted sat
only 116 have sat above 1500

Wes has 3805 undergrads
824 freshman
335 freshman submitted an sat
only 83 have above 1500

Have you done this analysis for other colleges? I’d be interested to see you post it for all of the Top100 or so.

It was probably more respectable when people could point to Democrats’ achievements & be proud of some of them. What are they going to point to now? “Gee, that Affordable health care isn’t really affordable”? “Golly, that open border thing turned out to be kind of unpopular”?

Well, Dem presidents have created more jobs, grown the economy more, and had consistently lower unemployment rates than GOP presidents over the last half century. Job growth under Obama, Clinton, and Biden was 50x greater than under the Bushes and Trump. Would lead to the conclusion that generally D-leaning campuses must be infinitely better for econ or any business-related field. I certainly would take the former group over the latter any day for anything related to my own financial future. Republican presidents sink economies--always have, always will, currently are!

SAT drones forever! That's the kind of culture I want my kid to learn in! Here Billy: answer this multiple-choice question well....who cares about the innovation, creativity, or deep analytical sensibility of your thought!

In simple words, why elect people to a government position...who don't believe the government should work for you? The entire concept of the Republican Party is backwards, desiring to hold seats in a government they believe shouldn't exist.

What about ACT?

116/155 above 1500 is impressive…keep in mind that 1500 SATs are not all alike: a 770 verbal and 730 math is not equal to a 770 math and 730 verbal: math scores are higher in general. This stat unduly favors high math scores (far easier). Don’t rely on it.

Are you serious?

Things really went off the rails here. Not sure how the school is responsible for the perceived ills of the Democratic Party but this board has always been special. I’m a Wes parent and wholeheartedly agree with many PPs that the common criticisms of Wes are ill informed and overblown. Like any other school it will not work for everyone, but if you are interested in SLACs you ignore it at your peril. I’m actually fine with gatekeeping it a bit. I’ve found that people from the region who choose Wes are super into it.

It gives students both the option to graduate in 3 years of 5 years with an MA, has a writing dorm community known as Writer's Block, has an amazing Public Affairs Center with very active programming with students, is constructing a new massive science center rivaling Amherst College, a new integrative arts lab, and most importantly the president is very level-headed and improving faculty diversity of thought and campus speech invites.

It is a much larger LAC (~3000 undergrads), has faculty with phd level projects, and it overall is a much more dynamic and diverse lab than the ones being propped up. What's keeping it behind?

Super expensive

Not that it matters, but all Wes freshman who sat for the SAT must report it before they matriculate, even if they apply TO. That is the data reported in the CDS. Wes’s data actually provides a much more realistic view of the freshman class than all the other TO SLACs. This has been discussed many times on this board and on College Confidential. If you are going to hold the test in such high regard at least know your data.

Applies to all the other top colleges, so next caller!

Wesleyan accepts nearly 3000 people (That's the size of the school!) just to get anywhere near 700 students. That's really poor yield.

I disagree with your premise. A TON of kids want Wesleyan.

The school does not cater to the rankings as much as many of the other SLACs do.

Show me that you know nothing about college yields without saying that you know nothing about college yields.

You didn’t say anything, so I’m gonna continue on. A 25% yield is trash. Just because you like the school doesn’t make it any less trash.

Why don't you do a little work an post Wesleyan's actual yield though?
