FCPS doesn't really check.

That is why schools such as WSHS are overcrowded.

You only need to show residency the first time you enroll, such as kindergarten.

Then, you can move wherever you want in Ffx or even LC, PWC, MD or DC. As long as you don't change your address, you can stay in the high performing FCPS pyramid through graduation.

FCPS does not check residency each year or when your kids move between levels such as ES to MS or MS to HS.

It is sooooo easy to commit residency fraud in FCPS.

Unfortunately, there are schools like WSHS that are now getting rezoned due to overcrowding, due in part to extensive residency fraud. The school board and superintendent are aware that it is happening, but claim there is only 1 person for 180,000 students available to check residency. They say this publicly, so clearly they support residency fraud and would rather rezone people who purchased in bounds, than to do a simple utility bill check for residency when the kids select their classes or pick up their schedule or transfer between levels.

To OPs question, please, please do not do this. It is not victimless fraud as kids in school pyramids like yours are having their lives thrown into chaos due to rezoning and overcrowding, in part by those committing residency fraud like this woman wants you to do. Fcps changed rezoning policy 8130 to require district wide rezoning every 5 years.

You say you are an empty nester.

How would you have felt if your kids got rezoned because people committing residency fraud caused their high school to become overcrowded?

Other students and parents DO tell the admin bc the student is taking spots-spots in sports, plays, band, etc. Kids find out and administrators get told. A family was kicked out mid year for doing it- all their kids gone- mid everything.

Probably a troll post to get people even angrier about getting pushed out of their “overcrowded” schools. But residency checks NEED to be done! Why should my home get rezoned when I’ve been following the rules and live in-boundary, when I know people who use a friend/relative’s address and drive in from beyond our home? They get to keep attended our top-ranked HS? You bet these people are going to be turned in. FCPS needs to start residency checks ASAP!

+1. There are staff meetings where this is also the top comment. There are some FCPS employees with access to every single student address. One should use the new ChatGPT tool and flag the questionable addresses and duplicates.

It's interesting how so many liberal people don't want the downtrodden to have access to their better quality schools even when it is in the SAME county and SAME school district.

These are often the same people who think there should be no more affirmative action because everyone now has the same opportunities and same access to quality education if the parent only put forth some effort. Yet when a parent tries to do that people are appalled.

OP it is really easy now to change an address on a bill online like a medical record, print it out for residency purposes and change it back.

So I would be cagey about saying yes through a text or email or anything written, but saying verbally if mail came to your house that was addressed to your co-worker you wouldn't send it back to the school and mark it person doesn't live here. And that many people who do that end up getting a PO Box so mail is sent to the PO Box.

They did actually check mine every year. They sent a verification letter, and if the letter come back to school (because the addressee name is not registered in post office) they will asked for further clarification.

FCPS might be able to collect tuition (ii) enrollment in a school outside the attendance zone in which the student resides, shall be guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor and shall be liable to the school division in which the child was enrolled as a result of such false statements for tuition charges, pursuant to § 22.1-5, for the time the student was enrolled in such school division.

In these situations with leases it has to be attached to the residency affidavit so the owners /renters collecting cash for fraud are traceable. No lease or under the table cash or no cash flowing? Major documents have to have your address. Audit could produce a revenue stream for FCPS.
