PSAT

I haven’t interacted with the PSAT info for my kid yet, but 4 years ago we got a score break down with quite a bit of specific info. I’d check for that and plan to work on those areas. Anecdotally I’ve been told that studying grammar rules is helpful.

My kids scores are still not up on the college board site. Who would I contact to find them? CB or the HS counselor?

He took the test on Oct 15 at Churchill.

Call College Board (google the phone number). For my kid, somehow there was a separate account created by the high school for the PSAT that didn't link up with her account. College Board then had to merge the accounts, which took about a day. They can give you the score verbally on the phone.

For those reading all these reports of super high scores and feeling discouraged, know that the three year average for our MCPS W school 10th grade students on the PSAT is about 1000. With prep, time, and super scoring, those scores will rise. A lot. By hundreds for many.

There’s really no point to studying for the 10th grade psat. The 11th grade one counts for National Merit, so it makes sense for a kid who was borderline for that on the 10th grade test to see if they can bump up there score on the 11th grade test.

This. My 10th grader took it cold to get a baseline. Got a 1420 .Will study this summer for the SAT, which will hopefully help him on the PSAT next year and possibly qualify for NMSF.

What do we think the selection index will be this year in DC and MD? Last year it was a record 225 for DC and 224 for MD.

My kid thought it was hard. Kid prepped for the SAT over the summer & got a 1480. Took a practice PSAT to brush up and got a perfect score on the practice. Then got a 1390 on the real PSAT this fall. Oh well.

I'm wondering whether my kids will get commended. 218, 214 index scores.

Commended is typically somewhere around 208 to 212

Thank you! I just called. My kid had the same issue. They said 5-7 business days to merge the accounts but maybe it will actually occur faster. They couldn't give me the score over the phone so we'll just have to wait.

My student went up 190 points from last year.

I expect they will drop by 1 point for class 26, and 1 again for class 27.

Your school should be able to give you that information. They get all results the day before they are released to the students.

Looking at MD’s cutoff line from 2008 to now, after each peak, it dropped 1-2 points and then went up again. Anyway, just guess.
