Literally what Prez Reagan did in the 80s

How much has air traffic increased since the 80s?

And there is a lot of technology available which has increased.

The technology is actually very old and that’s been problematic.

Its not like this stuff hasn't been discussed and debated every time there is a shutdown and the GOP always comes up with "but the military" -

I am OP. Promise you I am not a conservative or a Republican. I believe our military is quite capable at handling these jobs. It’s also a better alternative than sending them to cities.

And if no to sending military to airports, how about sending them to NationalParks and keeping them open? Pretty sure they can clean restrooms and are pretty good at search and rescue.

FYI - also sure the military could do TSA duties since there is also a shortage with those agents.

You have zero respect for the amount of training our military do, and for skills and knowledge they have.

DP. Lol have you every served?

I’m talking about plane to plane transponders and gps — there is a lot more situational awareness available to the pilots such that the ATC could be a little light and still work

7,000 flights a day were cancelled and slow downs continued for years. An average of 14,200 flight a day back in 1981. Today there are about 44,000-45,000 flights each day. There are only about 5,000 US military personnel who are qualified ATC. One they are busy doing their military jobs and two do you know if they use the same system and terminology as the military?

You just made the case that our military is bloated and full of waste. So it is your understanding that there are hundreds of, if not thousands, of soldiers, sailors, and airmen sitting around not needed and their jobs unimportant enough to be walk away and pick up trash in parks, or eyeball the skies. In that case, the military needs a DOGE, ASAP.

ICYMI: today they will start announcing which flights will be canceled tomorrow (Friday) as they dramatically scale back air traffic due to the shutdown.

I’m currently on business travel and scheduled to fly home on Friday…and I’m hoping my flight isn’t impacted.

I already received an email from the airline flagging the same info which has been shared by mainstream media.

I was already bracing myself for ridiculous tsa lines, and now I need to be prepared to get stuck at the airport thanks to thousands of flights being canceled.

the GOP and Trump Administration keep stepping on rakes. The American public blames them for the shutdown. If business and recreational travel are impacted, that only goes to raise the ire of another segment of the public.

And if this bleeds into thanksgiving or December holiday, then we can ask who is really cancelling Christmas.

If you are in CONUS, rent a car now. You can always cancel it once your path is clear.

30 years. No one who has actually served thinks our military should be working as park rangers and TSA. They HAVE jobs. They are needed where they are.

Do you work for a foreign adversary and you want to weaken our military?

No one is changing sides over any of this.

This is just jostling for power. I mean literally the response has been “that’s an awfully nice airspace you have there, shame if something happens to it”. No one will remember this in any meaningful way by next elections — because it will be drowned out by some other calamity (checks notes, Venezuela, nuclear test, Rush-Trumpmore).

Well, it’s well known that an avid golfer we all know and love does.

This.

Also the FAA is funded by ticket sales. You know all those extras when you buy the ticket. So Trump is just withholding funds that have been paid by everyone who bought a ticket.

What was the air traffic in the 80s compared to today, Einstein?
