Be careful, my daughter's room is about 3-5 degrees warmer than ours, and the thermostat is in the hallway which is very warm. We bought a Puck for a Nest system and set the temperature to her room when she was a baby.

If the heat needs to come on, it comes on

It's about saving energy and saving money, plus not being such a delicate flower that you can only be comfortable within a narrow temperature range.

In the winter, we wear layers (sweaters or sweatshirts) at home and put extra blankets on the bed. We turn on the heat when needed but also adapt to the season.

What a weird take. I wear sweaters and use extra blankets. I still want my home heated and it’s not a moral failing.

Yes, this. We live in a time of conveniences. I have never once thought wow I'm glad I shivered a bit before warming up enough to fall asleep because at least I'm not a delicate flower!

I look forward to this thread every year so I can laugh and laugh at these people who want us to think they are so rough and tough by not turning the heat on when it gets cold outside. Hilarious!

I do enjoy it a bit. The heat does eventually come on. But being a bit chilly for a week or two is fine in my book. You probably don't get it.

You people are crazy. Heat is in at night and set to 72. Why be uncomfortable in your own home?

My ac was on set to 60

Is that you, hubby?

Hasn’t dropped below 67 for me yet so no heat. I’m also perimenopausal and I cycle between feeling hot and cold. I’ll probably have to turn it on next week tho

I turned it on for a couple of hours to heat the rooms then shut it off.

My heat’s been on since early October.

We have gas heat and electric a/c. You have to turn each one on/off, you can’t just set a temp and have the relevant system kick on.

We have gas heat and electric ac, and we literally set a high and low temp range. .

My experience is that it's the lean and mean people who embrace a cold house. Seems to overlap with a keen interest in health and fitness.

Meh. It overlaps with menopause. That lasts about 10 years. Then couples slowly start moving in the opposite direction, back up, and in later life, the house tends to be heated to a temperature in degrees Fahrenheit that matches their age in years.

Im the biggest proponent of use your HVAC system to make you comfortable regardless of the calendar. 72 is just way too hot.

Actually we have the same and the thermostat allows you to have both cool and heat selected with set temps for both...so cool over 78 and heat over 65.
