| No, I can’t afford to turn it on until house gets to 52, 53. I’ll set it to 56. Hoping to get a heat pump though! |
| Yes. Been set to 71-72 |
| No heat until Thanksgiving. Keeps us all from getting soft. |
| I’d freeze in your houses. Thermostat is set to 70 and the heat came on a lot last night. But my electric bills are under $90/mon. |
| I don’t want to, but am engaged in a bitter struggle with my 17-yo son, who wants it on. |
Why come up with some arbitrary date? A few years ago it snowed on Halloween. Two years ago it was HOT. |
I'm the PP who keeps it at 65. I want to save money too, but you do that by setting the temperature - whether the heat is "on" for the season doesn't change that. PPs seem to see some value in not switching over from A/C to heat or not turning on the furnace for the season, but I don't know what that value is. |
| Also trying to hold off until mid or late November if possible. House has been 64-66 most days. I set it to 65 anyway in the winter and usually turn it down at night. |
| My heat and AC have been on for about 15 years. Why would you turn them off when you have a thermostat to set and control the temperature? House drops below 65, heat starts up. House goes about 74, air comes on. |
Good point, I switched "on" the heat 2 weeks ago. Whether it's run is not up to me. |
It's about saving energy and saving money, plus not being such a delicate flower that you can only be comfortable within a narrow temperature range. In the winter, we wear layers (sweaters or sweatshirts) at home and put extra blankets on the bed. We turn on the heat when needed but also adapt to the season. |
What a weird take. I wear sweaters and use extra blankets. I still want my home heated and it’s not a moral failing. |
| It's been on since the first night temp in house dropped to 70. |
| Saving money? I thought everyone on DCUM is a multi-millionaire? |
Agree, I like being slightly cold. I sleep so well in the cold. |
