Did you turn your heat on last night?

We have gas heat and electric a/c. You have to turn each one on/off, you can’t just set a temp and have the relevant system kick on.

Same here.

Will probably turn on heat next week, though trying to hold out till November 1st.

One year I made it to Thanksgiving!

Why? I enjoy a little endurance.

Heat has been on for a week now. It primarily comes on in the morning.

If the heat needs to come on, it comes on

It's about saving energy and saving money, plus not being such a delicate flower that you can only be comfortable within a narrow temperature range.

In the winter, we wear layers (sweaters or sweatshirts) at home and put extra blankets on the bed. We turn on the heat when needed but also adapt to the season.

Agree, I like being slightly cold. I sleep so well in the cold.

I sleep well in the cold too. I still have to be awake though during the day and don’t want to be cold then. I also don’t want the house getting too cold at night. Without a temperature floor, you don’t know how many layers you’ll need. I don’t want to wake up shivering at 3am.

What a weird take. I wear sweaters and use extra blankets. I still want my home heated and it’s not a moral failing.

+1. We have a progression of adding quilts, then the big duvet, then the flannel sheets. Throws for the couch come out of storage.

But we switch the hvac from A/c to heat when the house first gets into the low 60s. There's no reason not to - it's not like we're going to use the A/C any more this year - and it's more energy efficient to have a temperature floor instead of big swings.

My experience is that it's the lean and mean people who embrace a cold house. Seems to overlap with a keen interest in health and fitness.

We have an infant so our heat is set to 70. It would otherwise be set to 68.

Yes, this. We live in a time of conveniences. I have never once thought wow I'm glad I shivered a bit before warming up enough to fall asleep because at least I'm not a delicate flower!

Actually it burns more fat to stay warm in a cold environment-

brown adipose tissue, or BAT, and its role is to consume fat calories by generating heat in response to cold exposure. The white fat in our bellies stores fat, but the brown fat, located up between our shoulder blades, burns fat.

.

I have gas heat and electric A/C and my thermostat/control system turns the appropriate one on when needed. Time to upgrade your system.

Right. Some of these posters do not understand that there are different types of systems!
