Staying "close to the train station" would not be a priority for me in NYC

That area has gotten a lot nicer in the paat few years, also, with the construction of the new train hall.

I'd rather stay on the west side than Battery Park City.

If you like the smell of weed…

Every corner of every American city smells like weed.

We also have enjoyed Margaritaville - the rooms were super bright, clean but tiny. We booked a room for us and a room for the kids.
Both near but not totally in the crazy of Times Square.
Years ago we stayed in a Pod Hotel - I think Pod 51. Very modern, clean, fun but basic. I think each has a cool bar/lounge associated with it too.

Michaelangelo is $600+ a night.

Depends on when you are going and how far out you are booking. Ex Nov 13-17, $428 for a King room.

We stayed there last Christmas when our train back home was canceled. I found it that afternoon on the Hotel Tonight app. Great location (Starbucks was around the corner) and I’d stay there again. It was around $250 on the Saturday night before Christmas last year.
