Planning a somewhat last minute girls trip with my daughters (adults) and a few others. It’s been decades since I’ve stayed in Manhattan and I am slightly overwhelmed with the hotel choices.
Open to staying anywhere EXCEPT Times Square. I’m also not sure I want to be as far down as Battery Park or the Financial District either. Looking to stay $400 or under a night so not super fancy. Any recommendations? |
Try the Freehand - personal favorite
I like StayPineapple if you’re taking Amtrak. Close to the train station, decent hotel, not crazy expensive.
I have been able to book a Sonesta hotel for under $400, but it really depends on the dates. Last minute might be tough. I like them because they have rooms with kitchenettes, so we were able to easily do breakfasts in the room, reheat leftovers for a late night snack, etc. the rooms are large as well.
For under $400 your choices will be pretty basic. I know you said no Times Square, but Doubletree Times Square South is decent. It's very close to the Moynihan/Penn Station and actually not in Times Square. It's a basic NYC hotel- very small rooms, but it's clean, comfortable and has a nice and cozy rooftop bar, that has great views of the Empire State Building. Martinique by Hilton is nice enough and also close to Penn Station. It's adjacent to Korea Town. Finally, Doubletree in Chelsea is nice too. Chelsea, while having all the convenience of Manhattan, is a little more quiet.
There's a Marriott property in a good location between Times Square and Central Park. The higher, more expensive floors are a Residence Inn. The lower less expensive floors are Courtyard. Same address. Listed as two separate properties
Good luck, I was just looking yesterday and couldn't find anything with availability for under $400 per night if you need two beds in a room.
Yeah, you're not going to get under $400 last minute. Not these days.
Same poster. Just looked on Hotwire. It looks like if you book through there, you might be able to find something in your budget, but you can't afford to be picky. |
INNside by Melia is a favorite. Also had a recent good stay at the Mondo. Both are in the 20s and an easy walk from Penn Station, if you’re taking the train.
I like Hotel Cambria in Chelsea. Price really varies with demand like all NYC hotels. Quiet street, good location for transit, decent size rooms.
Residence Inn on Broadway and 54th. Corner Rooms with amazing views. Highest hotel in the city.
We have stayed here and a Hilton property in Chelsea. I think both hotels were in the flower district of Chelsea. Both were nice properties and Chelsea is a little more quiet, which is nice. |
Are you each getting your own room? Try South Park Hyatt on South Park & 28th. Rooms are tiny, but clean and bright. The rooms hover around $400/night, sometimes less if you book far enough in advance.
We stayed at the Springhill Suites on West 37th street and it was fine. I don’t know if you can get for under $400 at this late date, though. The Fairfield next door may be cheaper.
