Do you let contractors use your bathroom? How about No. 2?

(Of course even if they are fastidious and keep the exhaust fan on, there might be a lingering smell, but that's a natural side effect of being human,)

This. Although mine have always brought a porta potty or go out at lunch. Unless they are more handymen.

I 100% agree with this poster. What is the reason for you allowing someone to work in your home but not use the bathroom in your home?

And pooping on company time is always a no-no and a fireable offense if it is not due to sickness.

Are you mad? Of course you can relieve yourself while working. I think there are actually laws protecting this.

LMAO, poop protection. No, you can be fired if it's a regular occurance. No poop protection for you comrade. Back to work!

This.

However, I don’t like workers using my bathroom and certainly not for a dumb. Life happens though. So, I would just not use that bathroom personally until they were done with the work.

On few occasions over the first three days of the project one worker or another has asked to come inside to use the bathroom.

Somewhat grudgingly, I let them do so. On the latest occasion, however, the worker took a big dump! For me, that crossed a line. If the roles were reversed, I guess I would ask to use the bathroom and hope the homeowner said yes, so I didn't have to drive to McDonald's or something. But if I knew I had to go No. 2, I would absent myself from the work site for 15-20 minutes and go do my business in a public bathroom (there is a McDonald's about a 5-minute drive from here).

If you were the homeowner, how would you handle this? I could specify to the crew foreman that a quick whiz is OK but anything more than that, the crew member should go find another spot to take a dump.

Or I could say nothing, I guess, and just wait for the project to be over.

I think it's too late to revert to a "no using our bathroom" policy, but I wish I had laid down that marker in the first place, in retrospect.

You are not a good person. Imagine not allowing a worker to use your bathroom! He didn't take a dump in your living room!!!! Provide spray in the bathroom and let the workers use the room as it is meant to be used!!

You gave serious mental issues. Lots of people go to the bstgroom in the middle of the day

Pay for a portable outhouse parked in your driveway while workers are on site.

For a major renovation -- e.g. total gut job of a kitchen or adding on a room -- I would spring for porta-potty. For a two week job in a suburban area near commercial businesses with bathrooms available? Nope.

It may shock you to know that I don't invite the guys who mow my lawn every week to come inside and use the bathroom either. But apparently you all would favor that.

In any case, I do appreciate the replies, even if I admittedly hoped that more people would side with me on this one. Spouse wanted to deny the use of our bathroom altogether, so I guess I assumed my more moderate position was the norm.

If you can't tell the difference between a guy mowing the lawn for 45 minutes or so and someone working all day at your house thsn you aren't too bright.

Legally you have to or get a Porta potty

We have our deck done at the moment, and because of its complexity it already took a couple of weeks. We discussed workers' bathroom needs before starting the project with the team lead. Since we have a powder room on the main floor, we told the team lead and the workers that they're welcome to use this powder at any time. We have a garage door open for them through which they can just come to the inside of the house. My spouse works from home so he is there at home most of the time. So, for projects like these, you should have discussed those bathroom issues prior to starting the job, because it's an important issue. Also, my spouse makes coffee, light snacks for the crew daily- they love it and appreciate it.

Then I stand outside the door listening to make sure they are only doing little and if I hear them going big I yell and rattle the door and demand they be fired from the job. If I only hear them do little before they leave the bathroom I inspect and make sure they didn't miss the bowl and if so, make them clean it all up to my standards.

I am CRYING with laughter at this!

Uh, me. Most people who actually eat enough fiber and have a healthy diet. Someone who had vegetarian chili the night before. Anyone with even mild IBS or other GI issues (watch some TV and there are tons of commercials for Crohn's, Colitis and other chronic issues) #everyonepoops
anyone could poop during the day. If nature calls…

Tell them to use the bathroom in the basement. Just Clorox it down when they leave.

I had a crew of three here for two days. They never asked. I wonder where they went.

I sometimes poop 3x a day. Totally normal.
