Do you still wear skinny jeans?

I hate to be affected by trends, but I am. Ugh. When I put them on, they seem "old." Lately, I've been wearing boot cut.

But I keep them all because skinny will come back in style one day. I've given away too many jeans in the past only for them to come back in style. Not doing that again.

Those super wide legged pants look terrible on petite people. DD has very long legs, 5'7", and it looks great on her. I can't get away with it.

Slim wide legs look fine on us petites, though. If you shrink the wideness in proportion to how short you are, you can still look current and yet not like your clothes ate you.

The problem is when it comes back it will be a little different. Slightly different rises or washes or something like that.

My slim straights are almost skinny, but not quite. I'll never go back to those.

I wear skinny jeans - Lucky brand. Love them. I am 70+.

Skinny jeans might look okay for the tall-large women, giving them illustion of slim legs. But for everyone else, especially the short underweight ladies, they look like Peter Pan.

I wear high waist wide leg and straight cut jeans. 50 yo size 27.

I wear them bc skinny jeans are so constricting. Also it doesn’t feel like we’re far enough past the whole “fall-season-wide-brim-hat-riding-boots-tunic-scarf-long-hair-in-curls-on-my-way-to-homegoods” era.

I’ve been noticing more young women wearing wide leg low rise pants. Like Britney low. To which i say “noooooooooo!”

Yes and no and also let me expand on your idea.

Intelligent people don't care about sartorial trends, across all socio-economic classes. But a lot do it anyway in some circles, because they see a net benefit (social or economic) to following a narrow and transient set of values. The ones that are most susceptible to caving to such pressures belong to the middle class. They are the most tied to their jobs, and professional networks, which are usually also their friend networks, and stand to gain the most by conforming, and lose the most if they don't. The indigent and the very wealthy, as you said, don't have so much to gain or lose by being more individualistic.

And this applies not only to clothes but to morals as well. What we think of as "morality" is only a set of values imposed by society so the population can achieve greater conformity and therefore stability and success. In modern times, since we don't have absolute monarchs or many dictatorships, it is generally perpetrated by the middle classes, for the reasons stated in my first paragraph. The very poor and the very rich often do not care, and can more easily evade reprobation and social consequences.

Oh, yay. The ChatGPT poster is back with another useless lecture.

PP you replied to. I am very human and fallible, and no, I don't write like ChatGPT. Maybe insult me in some other, more credible way?

Do you also live out your fashion dreams with your daughter? Mine is tall and willowy, legs for days, and looks amazing in everything. I want to dress her up in all the cute things but she's 18 and has, like, boundaries.

OK weirdo. I'm not the PP but your take on her comment is bizarre. Take your issues to a shrink or a different forum.

I'm so sorry. Do you think you can ever let me come back? Is there a time limit for how long your ban on my forum participation might last? Anything I can do to make it up to you? Again, VERY sorry!!

But that was a damn good era.
You either were or you weren’t and that’s all you had to focus on

Not since acid washed 1980s era.

Late 90s to 2010 jeans were best. Hip hugger tight around hips and gradually looser towards the ground, sorta boot cut but not flared bottoms.

I saved a few pairs of skinniest but don't wear them now. Surely they'll be cool again. They were in style for so long I had money invested and wouldn't get rid of them all.
Anonymous
Love them but don't wear them anymore. The tops that are out now just don't look good with them, especially on my 50 something bod.
Anonymous
Yes, I still wear them. I also have bell bottom jeans and boot cut jeans.

Skinny jeans look better with boots.

No. You’re just not funny and your issues continue to bleed into everything. Seek help. Be gone.

If I read fashion blogs (yeah, I still read fashion blogs) right, these should be coming back this fall. Long may they reign.
