Best way to oppose authoritarianism

Virtually every tech and big media CEO were at the Trump/King Charles Dinner last night, if people want to understand where this going.

Like that’s gonna help. Dems are powerless.

The appeasers, which includes universities, law firms, and today, ABC, are killing us. They are allowing the fascists to pick us off one by one. Remember the saying, if we don't hang together, we will surely hang individually. The appeasers think that they are saving themselves, but they are just signaling that they are easy marks. Make the fascists fight to take our freedom. Don't just give it to them.

But what does this mean practically? I'm a regular ole' Mom in Chicago. What are some concrete things I can do?

Stop saying we’re never going to have elections again because that’s complying in advance. Register to be a poll worker. Get involved in a local election.

For people saying wringing congresspeople is a waste, you’re wrong. Research shows that Republicans contact their elected officials more than Dems.

You can also write a note of thanks to encourage them or write to tell them to do something within the party (fire Schumer).

Do you have any self awareness?

I totally disagree with this statement as a regular user of this site.

What bias do you think he has?

Didn’t your side just delete Jimmy Kimmel? Go look in the mirror.

My side is not Disney/ABC. So no.

Oh, FCC chairman Brendan Carr is very much your side.

And George/ Alex Soros and Neville Singham on yours.

What government agencies do they control? MAGAs have a really difficult time understanding fundamentals of government.

We understand cronyism quite well.

BTW, Jeff, is your site an in-kind contribution to the DNC?

It's telling that your understanding of government is limited to cronyism. That explains who Trump is putting in government positions. Trump sent his personal lawyer to negotiate with Maxwell. I bet you think that is an example of good government in action, don't you?

This site is not a in-kind contribution to the DNC. But some of the money I make from folks like you goes to AOC, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and a bunch of others that would give you nightmares. Think about that every time you click on a page here.

I just signed up to be an Election Officer in my County. Pick one thing and do it.

Sick burn 🔥 ! Y’all need to travel to a real authoritarian country. 🙄 we are absolutely NOT living in one.

I've lived in two authoritarian countries. And the parallels are surprising. What you don't get is that once on this path, it doesn't end easily. It will not be long before the Democrats are back in power and the broadcast licenses of Fox, Newsmax, OAN, etc. are threatened. When the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute are subjected to withering investigations.

And then the pendulum will swing back. And forth. Ad nauseum. And that will be the downfall of this country. The never-ending cycle of retaliation.

The thing that has most hampered anti-authoritarian movements throughout history is the inability to join forces with people you don't agree with on everything.

I have also lived in a number of authoritarian countries, including two that were democracies but went through a period of right-wing dictatorship (supported by the US government, but that's another story). While no authoritarian regime/dictatorship acts or looks exactly the same, some of the key elements are present in all cases. Silencing or intimidating the press and the media in support of the ruling party or leader's interests is a key element all authoritarian regimes share.

The internet is the best way to get news and organize. That’s what Trump is up against. The Chinese didn’t have internet when it got bad again in 2008-9.

The oligarchs may control the media but they dont' control the streets. Not yet. Just keep poking them. In numbers, we can be the giant cloud of annoying mosquitoes that keep bothering them, keep mocking them, keep ridiculing them. They can swat one of us away but they can't get all of us.

100%

Ever look at Babylon Bee? So painfully UNfunny.

I'm sorry, you are the one who lacks self-awareness. You are comparing having a post removed from a privately-owned website to government oppression. I can't fire you because i don't like what you post. I can't arbitrarily raise taxes on you depending on my mood that day. I can't arrest and deport your neighbors, including those who were here legally. Do you really expect anyone to take you seriously with this type of post?

DCUM is a privately-owned business. I have the right to decide what content I am willing to publish. If you want to say something that I won't allow here, there is nothing preventing you from saying it elsewhere. You can even set up your own forum and post whatever the hell you want. I am not the government. I can't stop you. Use your head for something other than a place to put a hat.

All true, but fails to take accountability for attempting to surreptitiously delete certain viewpoints while promoting others in an attempt to distort public sentiment.

But keep telling yourself that you’re one of the good guys. The irony is that You look down your nose at outlets like Fox News and OAN while creating exactly the same thing.

My wife grew up in the Soviet Union and she sees lots of similarities.

What did she think of the twitter files? Or Hunter Biden getting a 10 year pardon?
