Americans trying to make fun of other countries (it always ends up missing )

I made a joke about French military deodorant having sunscreen in it (you know, to prevent sunburned armpits, because…. well, you know….) and it got deleted.

So I think some of our humor is so spot on it clearly hurt someone’s feelings enough they asked Steele to delete the post, lolz.

+1 I eat at MacDonald's about once every two years, usually on a road trip.

For Americans traveling in France, one of the bigger surprises is the dearth of roadside fast food options, since we have so many over here.

It’s more popular with boomers and GenX. Not sure about Millennials. My kids are GenX and don’t like it. They are more the Starbucks and Panera generation.

I’m GenX and don’t have McDonald’s, Starbucks or Panera.

Meant GenZ not GenX. McDonald’s is nostalgic to DH because that was the only place his divorced ever took him the few times he would show up. It’s nostalgic to me because it’s what we would eat on road trips or sometimes my dad would get it later in the evening after dinner as a 10 pm or 11 pm snack. As a teenager we would ride our bikes there.

Once I hit college, it receded into the rear view mirror. Now it’s occasionally where we will stop when on road trips but not often. Kids don’t really like it.

I noticed that in EE it was the kids in McDonalds after school. In US, it's the elderly who use Mcdonalds for cheaper meal and to be able to sit down.
In USA kids don't roam around alone like they do in Europe. EE elderly don't care for Mikidee's as they didn't grow up eating it.

I saw it, right on mark!

I eat it exactly once a year on the way to the beach. I have to say if it were healthy I'd eat it more....I think it's delicious, but pure poison so it's once a year.

I order a Hsppy Meal maybe once or twice a year. 270 calories. Love the taste of the burger with the milk. Apple slices are crisp and tart. Fries are nice when piping hot.

I only eat at McDonald's if we have to use the bathroom there on a road trip. Last time we bought one kids meal and the 3 of us split it for a snack.

I'm not above fast food, I just like other things better so we really don't eat it.

I haven't eaten it since I was a teenager and am in my late 50s now. My kids didnt eat it in our house until they were driving and took themselves. It's gross.

It was a negative stereotype and you can't make fun of Europe.

Sure it’s terrible for you to eat Mcdonald’s often. But you know what’s even worse? Smoking-and you all don’t seem to worry about that direct poison to the lungs.

You think all the people here who don't eat McDonald's are sucking on Marlboros? That's a weird read of the room.

I personally don’t because I don’t like it. When I was a kid we’d go a few times a year and I didn’t like it then either. If I liked it, I’m sure I would go.

I far prefer Chinese, Thai, or Indian if I’m going to eat out. Not light or healthy but tasty. So it’s not a virtue thing, it’s my preference. And I don’t drive to commute - I take the metro, bus, or walk - so I’m not doing drive through.

Usually the poorer the more fast food they eat. Though I don’t understand it. McDonald’s felt kind of expensive to me when I went with my kids on a road trip. I hadn’t been in years before that.

Keep in mind median household income for Americans 77K for a family. That means half the country makes less. The cultural differences between families above and below the 6 figure mark is enormous. Honestly, it feels like a bigger cultural shock than going abroad.

In the past few years, yeah, McD's has gotten very pricey for what it is. But before that, it was cheaper than buying the more expensive healthy foods in a grocery store. So, yeah, food for the poor. Wealthy people also ate McDonald's and Wendy's and whatnot and still do. However, my family eats it less because you can essentially go to a sit-down restaurant for the same/not much more than you pay at Chick Fila or McD's or Wendy's today. Burger King is still a bargain, esp with all the coupons they put out. And I've come to prefer BK's food to McD's burgers and fries; although McD's still has the best Coca Cola on EARTh!
